Big news for Strategy Risks! We are launching our SR 250, an Index that ranks the top 250 public US companies on their China exposure, on Monday. That day, we will publicly release which companies made it into the top ten and the bottom ten for their China exposure. (For more information, or to trial our data, please email Info@strategyrisks.com) We rank companies on a score of 0-100, in these five categories: The Business Fundamentals category measures the company’s financial exposure to China, as reported in sources such as annual reports, sales data, and other documents. This category is the most quantitative, and features a maximum score of 25. The Partnerships & Politics category measures the company’s exposure to the Chinese state apparatus – a crucial metric in China. Driving metrics in this category are the company’s links with the Chinese government and Communist Party of China (CPC) officials, as well as related industry regulation in China. The Partnerships & Politics category assigns scores out of a maximum score of 25. The Supply Chain category measures material inputs from China and assesses how dependent firms are on those inputs. Strategy Risks determines scores by extracting inputs from large datasets and via manual research. Due to China’s centrality as a global manufacturing powerhouse, companies more exposed to supply chain disruption tend to receive a higher score in this category. The Supply Chain category assigns scores out of a maximum score of 15. The Regional Issues category measures a company’s exposure to sensitive political areas and human rights abuses. The category is the SR 250’s least automated and most research-intensive category. Companies with alleged links to forced labor practices within their business or supply chains score especially high. The Regional Issues category assigns scores out of a maximum score of 25. The Opacity category measures biases in the data sets related to transparency in a firms’ data related to China. Companies providing a smaller amount of China-related data, or less relevant data, receive a higher score in this category. The Opacity category assigns scores out of a maximum score of 10.

What's next for Vietnam? Strategy Risks featured in Nikkei Asia discussing geopolitical implications in the weeks following the death of the country's longtime leader. "Key questions for whoever takes the reins in Vietnam include economic reforms, the concentration of power among law enforcement officials and whether to combine the roles of general secretary and president. Until this month, Vietnam had been the only remaining communist country to keep the posts separate. Chinese exports to Vietnam are rising as companies relocate production to avoid U.S. tariffs. The U.S., along with other importers, is increasingly reliant on Vietnam as a major source of everything from furniture to iPads and semiconductors. U.S. taxpayers are funding Washington's bid to work with seven countries, including Vietnam, to build an all-important chip supply chain that excludes China." https://lnkd.in/g7Sv5Ptm
