Position Overview

SFM is seeking an experienced Chief Data Officer (CDO). The ideal candidate should have extensive leadership experience and a proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive data strategies. As the CDO, you will have overarching responsibility for defining and developing the firm’s data management framework, encompassing data architecture, data governance, and data quality standards. You will also play a crucial role supporting key business initiatives, addressing operational requirements, and contributing to alpha creation for portfolio managers. This role represents an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of data strategy at a premier global investment firm with interdisciplinary nature of the business and wide-ranging asset class mix.

The successful candidate will find numerous opportunities to assist portfolio managers and business leaders to drive P&L and efficiencies. You will lead a collaborative effort with senior business stakeholders to align and enhance our data capabilities in support of strategic goals. You will also partner with our Technology team to execute an ambitious data roadmap that optimizes our investment strategies and research initiatives.

Major Responsibilities

  • Cultivate relationships with investment teams and business leaders, comprehend their data needs and workflows, and propose enhancements to enhance their competitive advantage.
  • Design and execute a comprehensive data strategy aligned with SFM's business objectives, investment strategies, that also meets various research needs.
  • Ensure the seamless operation of data pipelines to provide timely and reliable data access to relevant teams and individuals.
  • Drive the creation and adoption of a "golden source" data model, ensuring accurate and consistent data across Security Master, Account Master, Price Master, Counterparty Master, and other key datasets.
  • Contribute to strategic quantitative initiatives focused on building innovative analytics, infrastructure, and services.
  • Establish robust data governance policies that uphold the highest standards of data quality, security, and compliance, ensuring the integrity and reliability of our data assets.
  • Enhance the firm's capabilities in AI/ML by designing and optimizing databases and data pipelines to support advanced analytics.
  • Recommend and implement best practices for data engineering, staying current on emerging technologies and industry trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in data architecture, data management, or data engineering, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in handling financial market data, core internal datasets (positions, trades, instruments, etc.),3 rd party vendor data and derived analytics within the asset management or hedge fund industry.
  • Strong business knowledge across a broad range of asset classes (Equity, Fixed Income, Derivatives, Structured Products, and Alternative Investments).
  • Experience leveraging cloud-based data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, and ELT tools such as FiveTran and dbt.
  • Proven track record in data governance and data quality management.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

Anticipated Salary Range

We anticipate that the base salary for this role will be in the range of $ 200,000 - $300,000.

In addition to a base salary, the successful candidate will also be eligible to receive a discretionary year-end bonus.
