About the Company: Our client is a dynamic, fast-growing multinational MedTech start-up currently with Series B funding. They are dedicated to revolutionizing healthcare through innovative embedded electronic medical technologies that improve patient outcomes and enhance healthcare delivery. With a diverse and talented team spread across multiple geographies, they are on a mission to bring cutting-edge solutions to market and create a lasting impact in the healthcare industry. With some products already out to market, they are seeking to expand on this success in the US.


Position Overview: Our client is seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead and expand their R&D division, which currently comprises around 40 highly skilled professionals, internationally with the plan to double this in San Francisco. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of taking start-ups from early-stage development through to successful exit and be comfortable engaging with investors and stakeholders to secure further funding rounds. This is a unique opportunity for a strategic leader with a deep technical background and a passion for MedTech innovation to drive the next phase of our client’s growth.


Key Responsibilities:


Technical Leadership:


  • Define and execute the company’s technology strategy in alignment with business goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse R&D team of around 30 electronics, mechanical and embedded electronics engineers, scientists, and developers across various locations.
  • Oversee all aspects of product development, from ideation to commercialization, ensuring that products meet regulatory standards and market needs.
  • Stay at the forefront of industry trends and technological advancements to guide innovation and maintain a competitive edge.


Strategic Growth:


  • Collaborate closely with the CEO and executive team to shape the company’s strategic direction and roadmap.
  • Play a key role in scaling the company’s technology capabilities to support growth and global expansion.
  • Drive operational excellence within the R&D team, optimizing processes for efficiency, quality, and innovation.


Funding and Investor Relations:


  • Actively participate in securing further funding rounds by presenting the company’s technological vision and roadmap to investors and stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective investors, ensuring transparency and alignment with the company’s long-term goals.
  • Provide technical due diligence support during fundraising and M&A activities.


Product and Market Development:

  • Guide the development of innovative products that meet clinical needs, regulatory requirements, and market demands.
  • Collaborate with the commercial team to align product development with market strategies and customer feedback.
  • Ensure robust intellectual property strategies to protect innovations and enhance the company’s competitive position.
  1. Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure all products meet necessary regulatory standards and work closely with the quality assurance and regulatory teams.
  • Lead efforts to achieve and maintain certifications and approvals from relevant regulatory bodies.


Qualifications:


  • Experience: Minimum 10-15 years of experience in technology leadership roles, with at least 5 years in the MedTech sector. Proven track record of taking start-ups from early-stage to exit, ideally through IPO or acquisition.
  • Education: Advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field; MBA or equivalent business experience is a plus.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of MedTech product development, including hardware, software, and AI-driven solutions. Familiarity with regulatory environments such as FDA and CE mark is essential.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and grow R&D teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Experience with multinational teams and remote management is a plus.
  • Fundraising Experience: Proven experience in participating in or leading fundraising efforts, including presenting to investors and managing due diligence processes.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to inspire and motivate teams, with a hands-on approach when needed.
  • Global Perspective: Experience working in a multinational environment, with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities of global markets.
