Our company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Superintendent specializing in large commercial ground-up projects. The successful candidate will oversee the on-site construction process from inception to completion, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires strong leadership, extensive construction knowledge, and the ability to coordinate multiple trades and teams on complex commercial projects.


Key Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • On-Site Leadership:
  • Lead and manage all on-site construction activities for large commercial ground-up projects, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, suppliers, and site personnel to ensure smooth and efficient project execution.
  • Schedule Management:
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, ensuring all milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Monitor project progress and make adjustments as necessary to keep the project on track.
  • Quality Control:
  • Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure all work meets or exceeds project specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with construction documents and safety regulations.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Safety Management:
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on-site, ensuring all personnel adhere to company and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including building codes and environmental standards.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including permits, inspections, and safety records.

Team Coordination and Communication:

  • Team Leadership:
  • Provide strong leadership and direction to the construction team, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff, promoting continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status and addressing any concerns.
  • Facilitate effective communication and coordination between all project parties to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.

Cost Control and Resource Management:

  • Budget Management:
  • Monitor and control project costs, ensuring all work is completed within the approved budget.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures and efficiencies without compromising quality or safety.
  • Resource Allocation:
  • Manage and allocate resources, including labor, equipment, and materials, to optimize project efficiency and productivity.
  • Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.

Problem Solving and Decision Making:

  • Issue Resolution:
  • Identify and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during construction, making informed and timely decisions to keep the project on track.
  • Implement corrective actions and mitigation strategies to address any deviations from the project plan.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Analyze project performance and outcomes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices for future projects.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and innovations to enhance project delivery and performance.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, with at least 5 years in a superintendent role overseeing large commercial ground-up projects.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex commercial construction projects from start to finish.
  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., Certified Construction Manager - CCM) are a plus.
  • Skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment for large commercial projects.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide diverse teams effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Certifications:
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) are highly desirable.
  • Additional certifications related to construction safety (e.g., OSHA 30-hour) are a plus.
