Reports to: Managing Attorney of the Case(s) to Which the Staff Attorney is Assigned

FLSA Status: Exempt

Contract Litigation Staff Attorneys at Labaton Keller Sucharow LLP are exempt, hourly attorneys employed to exercise their legal judgment to handle various duties in connection with litigation matters from inception through discovery, and ultimately resolution of the matter. These activities include assisting managing partners with negotiations with adversaries, motion practice and brief writing, legal research, participation in meet and confers, deposition preparation, taking depositions, attendance at settlement conferences and scheduling. A qualified candidate will have substantive experience in these areas.

Job Duties: Primary duties consist of, but are not limited to the following:

• Interpreting statutes an application of the set of facts involved in the matters;
• Negotiating with adversaries around application of the law and obtaining discovery;
• Attending and running meet and confers with adversaries regarding the scope and method of discovery;
• Review of documents obtained in discovery;
• Drafting document requests, interrogatories, requests to admit, deposition notices;
• Preparing documents for use at depositions;
• Taking offensive and defensive depositions;
• Legal research;
• Drafting briefs and legal memoranda;
• Trial preparation and attendance;
• Mediation/Arbitration preparation;
• Participating in settlement conferences;
• Presentations at team meetings;
• Scheduling of hearings, meet and confers and conferences;
• Other Tasks as assigned by the Managing Attorney.

Qualifications

• Must be admitted to a state bar and must be in good standing;
• Must have at least 6 months of experience in related substantive litigation matters.
