Full-time, Year-Round Position


Job Summary:

The Controller/Accounting Manager oversees all accounting and financial reporting functions for the plant, ensuring adequate controls to protect company assets and operational effectiveness. This role ensures relevant, timely, and accurate reporting of operations and effective support of operations and financial management. Manages the accounting team which has the responsibility for the planning, reporting and financial decision support of the facility/plant. This is an office-based position that does not allow for regular or frequent telecommuting.


Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Provides day-to-day supervision of Accounting Staff to include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Cost Accounting, and Payroll functions.
  • Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Maintains and builds management depth for existing business and growth.

Essential Functions:

  • Reinforces and promotes a culture of safe work practices and ensures the work environment is safe within areas of responsibility, and across the company.
  • Maintains an effective system of internal controls, ensuring compliance with Corporate and generally accepted standards of accounting and reporting.
  • Directs the processes of recording, reviewing, and reporting performance of the plant, with a focus on continuous improvement in terms of accuracy, timeliness, relevance, and cost. Effectively utilizes information processing technology and staff to deliver information to management in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Partners with plant management with managing capital expenditures to optimize economic performance, product quality, and associate safety. Effectively manages the plant’s Capital Expenditure Request (CER) process. Oversees inventory and overall asset management.
  • Manages the accounting staff and ensures effective utilization of human resources. Ensures effective training, development, coaching, of the accounting team members.
  • Oversees the payroll and timekeeping function for the organization.
  • Serves as the coordinator/director of the operations' cost/financial issues on behalf of the plant management team. Participates and reports financial performance and other ad-hoc business case analysis to the PTM. Manages the plant production costing process; prepares and reviews all new product costing requests (internal and external customers) with the plant management team. Performs special projects as directed by the CEO and Director of Operations.
  • Reviews monthly closing responsibilities and related cost/analytical and auditing responsibilities.
  • Supports activities related to annual capital/operating budgets, labor standards, payroll, key initiative reporting, operations performance forecast, scorecard comments, capital project review and approval and Agri Stats analysis and review.
  • Serves as the primary IT Liaison with our external IT service provider/partner.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline is required. A Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred.
  • Either a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or an MBA is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of formal leadership within Accounting of Business Operations is required.
  • 8+ years accounting experience is required
  • Manufacturing experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with enterprise planning software, including inventory management software is required.

May spend long hours in sitting at a computer, viewing a computer monitor.
