Controller (Finance)

Edward Mann are hiring for an excellent client of ours who sit within the education/ schools Industry. The role is a fantastic opportunity that will be leading a small finance team as the Controller (Finance) in the Washington DC area.

Salary range: in the region of $130,000 - $160,000

OVERVIEW

Reporting into the CFO.

• Lead all day-to-day operations of the finance department/ ensuring compliance with GAAP and other applicable standards/ regulations.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and other department directors on budgets & financial reporting.
• Identify new opportunities for developing efficiencies and support other departments.
• Monitor existing processes, work closely with the CFO & finance staff to streamline current systems, leverage new finance-related information technology, and improve standard procedures.

DUTIES (but not limited to)

Monthly reporting packages for the Board of Directors /senior leadership.

• Banking relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions.
• Coordination of independent auditors ensuring financial statement and audit issues are resolved, compliance issues resolved, preparation of the annual financial statements is in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• School’s tax compliance with federal, state, local, and other tax regulations.
• Lead the annual Form 990 process
• Control all accounting functions and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with GAAP
• Lead month-end and year-end close process; producing timely/accurate financial reports.
• Analyse monthly progress and refine/ develop appropriate financial metrics for the Board/senior leadership.

PROFILE

• Prior non-profit finance experience (ideally within the education/ schools area)

Track record in a senior financial management role.

• Ability to implement the financial infrastructure and systems needs in a nonprofit.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Manage data for effective financial reporting (knowledge of Sage Intacct preferred)
• Understanding of U.S. GAAP.
• BA or BS (or equivalent). CPA or MBA (preferred)
