Location

This is a PART-TIME office-based role based in Midtown Manhattan, NY. Ideal candidates will be offered flexibility to work around 25 hours/week, with the possibility of moving to full-time with organizational growth. This is an in-office position and must be available during weekdays between standard working hours (9a - 6p). Specific days and working hours will be agreed at the time of hire. Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on Controller to support the organization’s fast-paced financial operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO), this role will ensure the timely completion of the month-end close process, process high-volume financial transactions, uphold robust internal controls, safeguard assets, and assist the CFAO with the development and execution of financial strategies. The ideal candidate will have experience working within lean teams as an individual contributor and one that thrives in start-up environments with rapid response, proactively managing expectations and priorities with senior leaders.

Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide insights to support decision-making.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Manage staff allocations
  • Develop, monitor and implement internal control procedures and address deficiencies.

Accounting Oversight

  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial records.
  • Manage accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other accounting standards.

Payroll Management

  • Process payroll, ensuring accurate and timely payment of salaries and wages.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Handle payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure accurate employee data for payroll purposes.
  • Coordinate all matters associated with the organization’s retirement plan including ensuring accuracy of retirement plan contributions

Cash Management

  • Oversee cash flow management, including forecasting and reporting.
  • Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions.

Board And Audit Support

  • Assist CFAO with preparation of financial packages for Board committee and full Board meetings and with addressing committee questions and requests.
  • Oversight of annual audit, form 990, and other filings. This includes coordinating with external auditors to ensure a smooth and timely audit process, gather and organize all necessary documentation for the audit, and address audit inquiries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
  • 7 years’ progressive experience in accounting, finance, or business management
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks Online in a must, experience with QuickBooks Online for Nonprofits a plus.
  • Prior or current non-profit experience is required.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and agile work environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven capability to handle various tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.

Compensation

The position is part-time, exempt, and pay range is between $60,000 - $75,000 based on experience and skillset.
