Compensation for onsite WA applicants is $80,000-$110,000 annually. All applicants are welcome to apply.

What will I be doing?

As a controls engineer at AST, you will be supporting the continued improvement of the Engineering department. Some of your key responsibilities will include working with automation programing, control system designs, electrical schematics design/draft, performing experiments, machine testing and debug, and being a resource and support for our customers

Responsibilities:

  • Design control systems for complex automation including robotics and vision. This includes PLC, HMI and other peripheral and modular codes.
  • Draft operations and maintenance manuals in accordance with the designs and equipment.
  • Develop solutions and review technical decisions that have high impact, both internal and external to AST.
  • Contribute to and have responsibility for the completion of assignments with broad product, technology investment and integration, customer, and strategic impact.
  • Participate in the installation/startup/testing of machinery at customer facilities.
  • Participate in electrical and controls installation and supervision at customer facilities as needed.
  • Perform machine testing, experiments, and debug activities to ensure designs reliably meet the project requirements.
  • Execute factory acceptance testing with documented results.
  • Execute and document projects and tasks within given timelines and budgets with moderate oversight.
  • Maintain technical records, test results, and documentation in support of design and/or performance history.
  • Estimate the number of hours required to accomplish tasks.
  • Perform engineering responsibilities within budget and schedule limitations.
  • Participate in the design review process and provide technical input to peers.
  • Embrace AST's Process of Continuous Improvement across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accredited electrical engineering or engineering curriculum, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with common industrial programming languages, HMI designs, industrial communications, smart machine, AI/machine learning, machine automation hardware/software, advanced sensory systems including machine vision.
  • Ability to traveldomestically and internationally up to 25%, determined by company need.
  • Understand industrial machinery specifications and standards.
  • Knowledge of machine control system design and the testing environment with a strong electrical acumen.
  • Skilled with computer software - Allen-Bradley PLC Platform, AutoCAD, MS Office (Word, -Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A collaborative team player who plays well with others, interdepartmentally and cross functionally to achieve company goals.
  • A strategic thinker who enjoys innovation and problem solving and goes above and beyond to identify root causes.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and disciplined, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Character that complements AST's long-standing culture of high integrity throughout all areas of internal and external business activity.
  • Senior roles may include more lead responsibilities.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

  • Must be willing to take and successfully pass a drug test.

This is a full-time position based in Tacoma. Compensation is competitive, including salary, bonus potential, health plan options, competitive 401K match, and paid time off.
