Position Summary
The Communications Coordinator will be an integral part of ABC’s communications department, assisting in creating and implementing strategic communication collateral from managing social media and assisting in media relations to supporting event planning and coalition work. Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Coordinator will be key to expanding and strengthening ABC’s online presence by creating content for social media, the web, and newsletters. The candidate will be a creative thinker with an eye for visual design and a knack for explaining complex concepts in easy-to-understand and engaging ways. This individual will be attuned to social media and other digital platforms and have the capacity to leverage them to further ABC’s policy and advocacy work to support Latino/a’s in Los Angeles and empower our communities.

This position requires weekend and evening work as well as travel. The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this position successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. While performing this position, the employee is regularly required to operate a personal computer for up to 8 hours a day, to talk on the telephone or webcam for multiple hours per day, and to have the ability to speak and hear.
The employee is occasionally required to support outdoor events and to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Because this position requires direct interactions with others, the employee must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, although reasonable accommodation requests will be considered.

Responsibilities
- Manage traditional and digital advertising, direct mail, social media, press releases, events, and more to ensure effective campaign implementation.
- Craft compelling stories to influence perceptions and build support for initiatives and campaigns.
- Position ABC as a leader and policy expert in equity and social justice.
- Execute ABC’s annual communications plan and calendar.
- Pursue traditional media coverage and maintain media relationships.
- Work with partner organizations on coalition communication efforts.
- Assist in communications for fundraising, education initiatives, and other activities.
- Develop strategies to grow and target key audiences.
- Draft, strategize, and curate content for social media channels (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram); schedule posts and engage with followers.
- Design graphics and create content for social media, blogs, policy briefs, newsletters, and press releases.
- Update website content for blogs, events, and campaigns.
- Track social media and community engagement, identifying opportunities for ABC to participate in relevant conversations.
- Support the creation of campaign strategies, tactics, and messaging.
- Monitor digital metrics and analytics, reporting insights to senior staff.
Qualifications
- A commitment to the mission and goals of ABC and a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of the Latino/a community
- Education: Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a communications-related field
- Experience: Must have a minimum of 3 years of related experience
- Content Knowledge: Ability to analyze communications-related tasks and some
- knowledge of Los Angeles and California public policy issues
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to contribute positively to the work culture by being solutions-oriented and a team player
- Collaboration: Able to work within a team environment and lead collaborative efforts to accomplish collective goals and objectives.
- Must maintain positive working relationships with organizational leadership and staff to meet collective goals
- Organizational Skills: Some project management and multi-tasking skills, e.g., attention to detail, ability to create and monitor project budgets and timelines, proper documentation of work and record keeping, and the ability to prioritize work effectively
- Communications Skills: Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Preference for bilingual candidates (Spanish & English)
