The Counsel, Legal Services is organized and detail-oriented, serving as an expert for our clients and team members as it relates to more complex, or nuanced, charitable giving needs and scenarios. They’re responsible for maintaining a deep understanding of charitable giving vehicles, including donor advised funds (DAFs), complex asset gifts, charitable trusts, and performing research to stay apprised of trends and emerging regulations in the field. This position requires excellent communication skills, strong collaboration with many personality types, and a high degree of accuracy.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a high level of expertise regarding state and federal taxes, gift and estate giving methods and the legal aspects of charitable giving, specifically, DAFs.
  • Work with clients, staff legal counsel, and CPAs to ensure DAFs are administered in compliance with contracts, laws, and IRS regulations.
  • Support and advise clients on the formation and execution of their business strategies and policies around major gifts (including complex assets), special grants, and supporting organizations.
  • Assist with due diligence and vetting of gift opportunities to determine administrative feasibility. Support administration of specialty/complex asset gifts.
  • Review documents and provide support related to complex asset giving. Address, research and resolve complex asset questions or issues for client, donors and/or team.
  • Complete the review, analysis, and customization required for facilitating grant agreements.
  • Prepare documents, contracts and materials for board meetings, client appointments, and regulatory filings.
  • Ensure client retention, loyalty, and continued opportunities with excellent client service achieved through pro-active client contact, prompt and accurate responses, and enthusiasm. This role provides white-glove service, which will require some afterhours work and on call availability.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure work and relationships across departments are client-focused and produce solutions that are revenue generating, scalable and compliant. Follow procedures, document procedures and identify/implement process improvements and automation to help streamline workflows.
  • Any other duties as assigned.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or law required.
  • 5+ years’ experience in financial services, client success, non-profit and philanthropic or legal industry required.
  • 5+ years of experience in handling philanthropic instruments, administering complex asset gifts, and estate planning techniques.
  • Devotion to high-quality customer service. Knowledge of relationship management best practices with ultra-high net worth clients and their family offices.
  • An in-depth understanding of complex assets, grants administration, and related services
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to develop and deliver influential, insightful presentations and recommendations to all levels of business leadership.
  • Creative-solutioning, problem-solving, and conflict resolution capabilities.
  • Superior time management skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize work.
  • Exemplary attention to detail, highly organized.
  • Strong business ethics & personal integrity.
  • Fluent Microsoft Office Suite experience. Salesforce experience is desirable.
