Do you want to work as a criminal prosecutor as part of a dynamic vertical prosecution team? Are you interested in protecting the most vulnerable members of our communities and in helping to safeguard our state’s healthcare programs?


We are seeking an experienced criminal prosecutor to join our team in the Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (DMFEA), in our Riverside Regional Office. DMFEA investigates and prosecutes fraud against Medi-Cal programs and elder abuse and neglect. The Deputy Attorney General (DAG) in this position prosecutes complex criminal cases in state courts, including (1) fraud committed against the Medi-Cal programs by providers, such as licensed physicians, pharmacists, and nurses and others, and (2) criminal abuses and neglect of elder and dependent adults in nursing and other residential care facilities.


Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with members of their partner disciplines, such as DMFEA special agents, investigative auditors and crime analysts. The DAG
  • Advise and collaborate with agents, auditors and analysts on criminal cases; jointly develops investigative plans; reviews reports, search and arrest warrants; and makes filing decisions for criminal charges.
  • Legal research and writing, regular appearances in state courts, from case filing to sentencing, and the presentation of evidence at various hearings, grand juries and trials.
  • Prosecute crimes involving drug diversion of opioids and other controlled substances.
  • Cooperate with partner agencies tasked with the administration and regulation of the Medi-Cal programs and residential care facilities.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and experts, such as experts on standards of care, computer and forensic experts, money laundering and asset freeze and forfeiture experts.
  • Liaise with federal, state and local law enforcement partners, as well as out-of-state law enforcement agencies and Attorney General Offices.


Minimum Qualifications

Must be an active member of the California State Bar.


Salary Ranges (Monthly)

DAG (Less than 5 years of legal experience) $7,737.00 - $11,173.00

DAG III (5+ years of legal experience) $10,536.00 - $13,526.00

DAG IV (6+ years of legal experience) $11,644.00 - $14,954.00
