Base pay range

$65,001.00/yr - $87,032.00/yr
Minimum Qualifications

Non-competitive: bachelor's degree and either: satisfactory completion of a two-year traineeship or two years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.

  • Substitution: A master's degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field may substitute for one year of the specialized experience. A Ph.D. in the above fields may substitute for two years of the specialized experience.

The position may be filled at the Data Analyst Trainee 1 level equated to SG-14, $52,198, Data Analyst Trainee 2 level equated to SG-16, $58,247, or full performance Data Analyst 1 SG-18, $65,001 following the successful completion of the traineeship.

Duties Description

Under the direction of the Data Analyst 2 in the Bureau of Data Reporting and Analytics, the Data Analyst 1's will perform data extraction, aggregation, and quality checks from multiple sources and tables in support of trend identification and root cause analysis and summarize results, create written reports, and collaborate with staff in support of innovative and effective dashboards and data visualizations.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare data and draft technical requirements and data definitions for new data models and data pipelines from ingestion to consumption in several large data systems.
  • Perform processes handling the download, cleaning, and structuring of data.
  • Program scalable and efficient data pipelines for several large data systems in programming languages including SAS, Python, or SQL.
  • Maintain integration processes required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources in both on premise and cloud environments.
  • Collaborate with staff and external partners to ensure support for all data sets and processes running in production.
  • Translate program requirements to technical documentation and compile methodology/code to support for major quality, safety, and public healt
  • Assess data structures of current data systems and provide suggestions for how they can be used to produce desired reports.
  • Utilize cloud-based data analytics technology solutions to support both regular reports and analyses as well as research on health outcomes of interest.
  • Prepare data for analysis and reporting using data wrangling techniques (joining, merging, stacking, cleansing, transposing, aggregating, transforming, etc.).
  • Produce and interpret univariate analyses to identify patterns, outliers, and errors in data.
  • Assist in the systems management, data management, and testing of systems used for data quality; develop scripts and data pipelines to automate these tasks.
