SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer.
SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.
Commitment to Racial Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
SHP strives to ensure its culture and work environment reflects the values of race, diversity, equity, and inclusion (REDI) and is responsive to the views and issues of the diverse communities with which we live and work. SHP encourages individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to equity and inclusion to apply.
Position Summary
Sandy Hook Promise is seeking a Director of Education Marketing & Communications to help develop, refine, and execute strategies that will fuel the growth of our suite of “Know the Signs” programs to the education sector. Our goal is to scale our programs to reach 20% of school-age youth by 2028.
This position will play a key role in identifying and marketing to education decision makers who determine what programs to implement to keep their students safe, and then engage them with valuable tools and resources that promote social and emotional learning (SEL).
With the proven ability to think strategically about audience-centric messaging and distribution that catalyzes measurable action and strengthens the SHP brand, the Director will help ensure that SHP is viewed as a trusted resource and encourage educators to engage with our suite of programs.

The ideal candidate is experienced in crafting and implementing strong marketing and communication plans with strategies that deliver measurable results within the education sector. These will lean heavily on digital marketing tactics while thinking through the entire digital user journey, from awareness to interest to conversion. This person will need to be a skilled project manager adept at working independently and as a member of a cross-functional team, while being comfortable juggling multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. They are driven, detail-oriented, and creative, solutions-focused thinkers with exceptional interpersonal skills. Must be adaptable, always seeking ways to increase efficiency in managing workflow and team expectations, and a stickler for tracking against KPIs and proving ROI.
The role reports to the Associate Vice President, Digital Marketing and will also work closely across the entire marketing organization while also strategizing with the Business Development team responsible for converting leads into program partners. This is a full-time position and offers a competitive salary, benefits, paid holidays, and vacation. Remote candidates are encouraged to apply.
Job Responsibilities
The salary range for this position is $93,000-$103,000. (SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff. New hires should expect to be brought on at the start of the range, except in extenuating circumstances.)
SHP offers a competitive benefits package, including:
Equal Opportunity Employment
SHP is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We strive to be an employer of choice: where a diverse mix of talented people want to come and do their best work. All applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status, or any other protected characteristic. We are focused on promoting diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion and believe deeply in having a workforce comprised of people of all beliefs and backgrounds who seek to prevent gun violence and stop the tragic loss of life. Members of all under-represented groups are encouraged to apply.
