Position Overview:

The Newport Group is an executive recruitment firm specializing in matching top-tier professionals with leading companies in the construction and utilities sectors. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Environmental Health & Safety on behalf of our well-regarded client, a leader in the power and electrical construction industry. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in EH&S management, strong leadership abilities and a deep understanding of regulatory compliance and safety practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive EH&S programs, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state & local environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions to mitigate hazards.
  • Lead incident investigations and develop strategies to prevent recurrence.
  • Oversee EH&S audits and inspections both internal & external.
  • Provide training and education to employees on EH&S topics
  • Collaborate with management to integrate EH&S objectives into business operations.
  • Monitor and report on EH&S performance metrics
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and external auditors.
  • Stay current with industry best practices and regulatory changes.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in EH&S management with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of EH&S regulations and standards (e.g. OSHA, EPA, NFPA)
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing EH&S programs.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and make sound decisions.
  • Certifications such as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or CHST or similar designation
  • Experience with power construction at utility scale.
