Over years of collaboration, we’ve helped the City of Edmonton build out its light rail system — today one of North America’s busiest. Now this leading network is set to expand still further as we partner with Capital Line Design-Build Ltd. to deliver the City’s Capital Line South Light Rail Transit Extension project. Located in Alberta, Canada, the project includes a 4.5-kilometer light rail extension from Century Park to north of Ellerslie Road, two new stations and a light rail vehicle storage and maintenance facility. As a design lead on the Capital Line Design-Build Ltd. team, we will be responsible for infrastructure and systems design. “We are thrilled to continue our close partnership with the City of Edmonton, supporting its commitment to expanding sustainable transportation options that meet increasing demand for urban mobility choices for residents, employers and visitors,” said Richard Barrett, chief executive of our Canada region.   Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ecrG3XJu #AECOM

In this week’s Deep Dive, we hear from Josh Jones, a program manager from our Transportation business in Canada. Josh has over 20 years of experience in construction and management of large-scale infrastructure projects. He currently leads a team of nearly 20 multi-disciplinary professionals, using his decades of experience to develop and execute complex public-private partnership (P3) projects.    One of the highlights of his career has been serving as project manager for the Valley Line LRT in Edmonton, western Canada’s largest LRT owner’s engineer assignment and Edmonton’s first P3 project. Josh and his team worked not only with city staff, but also with AECOM’s global network of experts, bringing specialized knowledge from around the world, to successfully deliver the project. Today, the Valley Line provides Edmonton’s population of over a million with affordable access to public transit, expanding connectivity across the city while decreasing car dependency and eliminating an estimated 5,340 metric tons of greenhouse gases annually. From a young age, Youvrani Thimmegowda’s father, a chief officer in their local municipal office, often took her to water treatment plants. She discovered the complex processes involved in water treatment, which captivated her imagination — and sparked her lifelong interest in environmental engineering.   Today, she is a principal engineer from our Water team leading a large team of professionals with a wide range of expertise, coming from all over the world — from Ireland and the UK to India.  Together they support major clients like Uisce Éireann (formerly Irish Water), in planning water and wastewater programs across Ireland, collaborating with communities to deliver tailored solutions that reduce environmental impact, prevent pollution, effectively use resources and help mitigate flood risks.    Read more about her work: https://lnkd.in/ecJwQX68   #AECOM #AECOMVoices

We’re excited to announce the launch of the SMI Nature Risk Tool in partnership with the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI).   Developed by our teams as part of SMI’s Measurement and Transparency Task Force, this first-of-its-kind tool is designed to revolutionize how infrastructure projects are planned, financed, and delivered in response to the increased challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and social inequality. Powered by AI, it assesses the impact of new infrastructure developments on biodiversity and nature. This enables decision-makers to evaluate environmental dangers, from potential pollution issues to biodiversity loss or geological hazards.   “As the world grapples with the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss, this tool provides a much-needed solution for making informed decisions about nature and financial risks at the earliest stages of project development,” said Troy Rudd, our chief executive officer, and Head of SMI’s Measurement and Transparency Task Force. “We’re proud to support SMI in developing this first-of-its-kind resource to arm users with clear, actionable insight to drive nature-positive outcomes.”    To learn more, visit: https://lnkd.in/eJKQrJAr   #AECOM

As the youngest engineer on her team, Kelly Young's first major milestone at AECOM was completing her first full bridge design. Since then, her technical career has rapidly advanced leading her to become our lead bridge engineer in South Carolina. Now, she’s working to create 3D bridge models that will fully be adaptable to any project location. “If you want to try something new within the scope of AECOM, ask. You don’t have to do just one type of work. AECOM offers a whole world of opportunity,” Kelly writes.
