Job Summary

The Director – Business Development will drive new sales growth and expand our geographic footprint with gas and electric utilities and the contractors that serve them. This is an experienced salesperson who has a consultative sales approach, with polished presentation skills, and a successful track record of consistently finding and closing new deals in the electric and/or gas utility industry. This person has a proactive mindset in the client-hunting process, understands how to approach the target market, and uncovers new opportunities. Strong communications skills, a knack for building rapport easily, persistence, and deep utilities industry knowledge are hallmarks of this role. A successful Sr. Director – BD is tenacious and has a proven ability to turn a “no” into a ”yes” by listening to the customer and adjusting the approach when needed. Overall, this role will be charged with seeking out new prospects, moving opportunities through the sales cycle, and closing deals. This is a remote position with ability to regularly travel within the US and Canada up to 75% of time.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and close complex deals as a direct seller
  • Identify decision makers and sell at the appropriate level up to the executive level
  • Expertly drive a consultative, end-to-end sales process to deliver the value of our services
  • Meet or exceed quarterly sales quotas for net-new business
  • Challenge and educate prospects to drive value through a deal’s trajectory
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasting, reporting, pipeline forecasts and conversion rates to make data-driven decisions
  • Develop winning client offers, proposals, and presentations
  • Participate in/advise new go to market solutions and messaging
  • Collaborate effectively with Agile’s resources to build effective deal teams to improve our win rate
  • Create and execute a strategic sales plan for your opportunities by identifying key stakeholders, uncovering needs, and designing a strategic approach
  • Understand the core needs of each client type and build an effective value proposition
  • Manage the overall relationship and communication with key prospects including full understanding of their business model, problems and needs, and how Agile addresses their needs and provides value
  • Define and create compelling win-win value propositions
  • Continuously keep your sales pipeline full with quality leads
  • Perform regular in-person visits to qualified prospects and customers to generate new sales
  • Network at industry events to expand our brand


Requirements

  • Minimum ten years of direct executive level selling experience in the gas and/or electric utility industry selling multi-million dollar deals in a consultative sales role
  • Proven ability to generate leads, move them through the sales process, and close deals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills reflecting an ability to build rapport
  • Regularly travel within the US and Canada up to 75% of time
  • Goal oriented self-starter that can work independently, as part of a team, and pull in resources as required
  • A strong existing network and the ability to quickly and effectively build new networks
  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or other applicable field, or equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficient using MS Office products and CRM systems
  • Ability to develop informative and compelling Powerpoint presentations that clearly articulate Agile’s value and how we solve the customer’s problem
  • Tenacious approach to opportunities with the ability to make adjustments in the approach if needed to win work
  • Ability to multitask, think strategically, problem solve and collaborate with team members
  • Highly motivated, results focused, and act with a high sense of urgency
