Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Energy to set the strategic energy direction for Charter Manufacturing. This key leader will drive energy management systems, lead energy resource forecasting and procurement, and engage with regulatory bodies to secure beneficial tariff structures.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Business Unit and finance leadership to set strategic and sustainable energy goals
Lead energy management systems to drive energy savings and process improvements
Forecast and procure energy resources for the business, ensuring cost-effectiveness and reliability
Monitor and lobby for regulatory and tariff structures beneficial to Charter Manufacturing
Identify, manage, and communicate energy risks and opportunities affecting strategic goals
Lead cross-functional teams in implementing energy enhancement and cost control projects
Develop a business case for focusing resources on internal energy management
Build and maintain relationships with regulatory and legislative bodies
Identify strategic partnerships and participate in trade associations to enhance the company’s reputation
Implement and maintain compliance structures, including internal and external audits and best management practices
Manage data collection, record keeping, and reporting systems for energy use performance
Support work teams in enhancing compliance, Continuous Improvement, and change management processes
Develop and maintain the internal energy resource budget, managing resources and consultants effectively
Manage large capital improvement projects related to energy and carbon reduction
Participate as a member of the EHS&E leadership team to set metrics, goals, and strategy for improving EHS&E systems
Coordinate activities of outside contractors and ensure compliance with Environmental, Quality, and Safety Management System procedures

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
10+ years of experience in energy procurement, demand savings, and process improvement in manufacturing environments
10+ years of experience managing energy resources
Strong analytical skills and ability to articulate business issues and solutions to cross-functional audiences
Experience negotiating and influencing regulatory agencies
Proven project management experience in energy enhancement and cost control projects
Leadership skills with experience developing direct reports and building functional teams
Knowledge of process control and Continuous Improvement systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA or advanced degree in Engineering or related field
Experience in the steel manufacturing or foundry sector

Engage with regulatory bodies and promote positive relationships with energy agencies
Identify and manage strategic energy partnerships and participate in trade associations

Direct work teams in compliance and Continuous Improvement projects
Manage the internal energy resource budget and oversee consultants
Lead capital improvement projects focused on energy and carbon reduction
Set EHS&E metrics, goals, and strategies as part of the leadership team
Coordinate activities of outside contractors and ensure compliance with relevant procedures

Reports to: Vice President of Environmental, Health, Safety & Energy
Implementing energy goals and ensuring consistent performance across all Charter Manufacturing locations
Efficiently meeting energy requirements in a diverse business environment
Identifying and integrating value-added energy solutions into the overall business plan
Managing multiple and competing priorities
Gaining buy-in and managing expectations of centralized operations support in independent plants and departments
Developing and maintaining focus on strategic objectives within operations management
