The Director of Home Construction is a leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing the construction activities related to affordable housing projects. The responsibilities encompass various aspects of construction, project management, team leadership, and community engagement.
Strategic Planning
Project Strategy: Develop and implement strategic plans for home construction projects in alignment with the organization's mission and goals.
Resource Planning: Plan and allocate resources, including budgeting for construction materials, labor, and equipment.
Team Leadership
Supervision: Provide leadership and guidance to project managers and construction crews.
Training and Development: Oversee training programs for construction teams, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge.
Project Management
Project Planning: Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
Coordination: Coordinate with other directors to ensure construction projects meet budget and timelines.
Quality Assurance
Construction Standards: Establish and enforce construction standards to ensure that homes meet Habitat for Humanity's quality criteria and comply with local building codes.
Inspections: Implement a robust inspection process to monitor and maintain high construction standards.
Community Engagement
Public Relations: Represent the organization in public forums, engaging with the local community, government officials, and potential partners.
Community Outreach: Collaborate with community organizations, volunteers, and local businesses to enhance community involvement in construction projects.
Resource Management
Budget Oversight: Manage construction budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to financial guidelines.
Material Procurement: Collaborate with the VP of Construction in the procurement of construction materials, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring timely delivery.
Risk Management
Identify Risks: Identify potential risks to construction projects and develop strategies to mitigate them.
Problem Solving: Address unforeseen challenges and issues that may arise during construction, implementing effective solutions.
Reporting
Progress Reports: Provide regular reports to construction department staff, senior leadership, and stakeholders on the progress of construction projects, including key milestones, challenges, and successes.
Regulatory Compliance
Legal Requirements: Ensure that construction projects comply with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration
Internal Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, including fundraising and volunteer coordination, to ensure a coordinated and integrated approach to home construction projects.
Post-Construction Activities
Handover: Coordinate the process of handing over completed homes to Habitat homeowners, ensuring a smooth transition.

Must have strong project management skills
Must have experience in managing staff
Must have experience in residential home construction
Must have strong oral and written communication skills

Must have excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office
