Summary Of The Role

The candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of projects for the rehabilitation of existing facilities, with a particular focus on the John W. Keys III Pump-Generating Plant located in Grand Coulee, WA. During unit commissioning, this role will be based on site. When commissioning activities are not being performed, this position will be based hybrid in Spokane, WA. As a member of the balance of plant engineering team the candidate will be responsible for the unit instrumentation, electrical systems, and auxiliary systems. The tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Review of technical contract specifications, identifying design requirements and developing concepts for solutions and systems.
  • Supervise designers and actively participate in the preparation and production of engineering documents such as block diagrams, instrument lists, electrical diagrams, instrument installation details, wiring routing drawings, cable lists, P&ID diagram, and control panel specifications, while ensuring that engineering concepts and works comply with technical specifications and the requirements of applicable codes and standards.
  • Coordinate with various engineering teams, suppliers, and customers for the integration of applicable equipment systems.
  • Produce technical specifications for electrical equipment and review associated shop drawings.
  • Carry out engineering instructions for work or inspections at the plant.
  • Monitor and update the budget and engineering schedule with the project teams.
  • Organize and participate in design reviews.
  • Check and approve the technical documentation produced under his supervision.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of design tools and rules.
  • Participate in problem-solving and identification of root causes.
  • Prepare technical documentation for submission.
  • Review vendor engineering documentation and ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Resolving technical electrical installation issues during the assembly phase.
  • Being on-site during the commissioning phase, directing the commissioning of the units, coordinating daily meetings, updating the schedule, completing daily reports, and being the bridge between the client and the commissioning engineers.
  • Contribute to overall quality and excellence in execution of installation & commissioning.
  • Review the designs and propose changes to reduce installation challenges, improve safety and quality as well as reduce time and cost of installation.
  • Enhance Field Services team’s technical excellence through technical support, training and mentoring on best practices, calculations, etc.
  • Support the project execution team on installation and commissioning matters.

  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering/ electronics engineer;
  • Experience in turbine-generator instrumentation or equivalent industry experience (asset).
  • Experience in general instrumentation and control system design (asset).
  • Experience or knowledge of hydroelectric or other power generation fields (asset).
  • Experience or knowledge of hydraulic power and control systems (asset).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve technical problems and to design practical and cost-effective solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD (desired) and AutoCAD Electrical (asset) CAD software.
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, Project, etc.).
  • Good interpersonal skills, collaboration, and teamwork (required).
  • Willing to travel and work on site 30%. Required to work onsite during unit commissioning.
  • Bilingual (English, Spanish) is desired.
