Environmental Scientist - Level II

Responsibilities

Pantex is one of six production facilities in the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Nuclear Security Enterprise. As the cornerstone of the nation’s Nuclear Security Enterprise, Pantex applies unique capabilities to ensure the effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear stockpile in support of the Nation’s nuclear deterrent. We accomplish this through executing nuclear explosive assembly and disassembly, special nuclear material testing and evaluations, and manufacturing and assessing high explosives at our historic site.

Duties

As the Environmental Scientist, you’ll perform duties as a team member in the Environmental Compliance Department; providing specialty job knowledge and experience to support the development of compliance strategies and written reports. Other duties include:

  • Assist subject matter experts with regulatory reports, including air quality permitting, drinking water systems, wastewater, sustainability, and environmental management systems.
  • Provides team input to ensure strict compliance with permits, Department of Energy (DOE) Orders, and Federal and State regulations.
  • Cross trains and conducts walk downs with other environmental professionals in the field and across the industrial areas to support final recommendations of a highly technical nature within a range of environmental science specialties.
  • Employs significant professional experience, education, and specialized training across multiple environmental science disciplines to lead or support other subject matter experts and ensure monitoring, analysis, and recording of monitoring data by technical and sampling organizations meet data quality objectives.
  • Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office software to support excellence in written and verbal stakeholder communications and reporting.
  • Supports National Environmental Policy Act review of projects and actions to ensure compliance with Pantex Plant goals, DOE Orders and Policies, and state and federal regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience.
  • Must be US citizen.
  • Must pass a drug screening.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance or security access badge.
  • DOE Q or L security clearance preferred.

Location/Work Arrangement:

  • Part-time; 30 hours or less per week.
  • This position is remote, based at the Pantex Plant, located in Amarillo, Texas.
