Overview
Join our dynamic team in an exciting joint program with a prominent university in China! We are seeking an experienced ESL instructor to teach English to second-year students, both in-person and online, as part of a unique articulation agreement. This role involves intensive language instruction to help students improve their academic writing and oral communication skills, facilitating their transfer to complete their bachelor's degrees in the United States.
Key Responsibilities
In-Person Instruction: Provide academic writing and oral communication instruction to approximately 60 second-year students at Jiangsu University for 3 months.
Teaching Hours: 10 hours per week
Duration: 3 months (in-person)
Online Instruction: Deliver online courses for 1 month to students in the U.S., requiring flexible teaching hours due to the time difference.
Schedule: Morning classes four days a week and evening classes two times a week
Office Hours: Offer 1.5 hours of office hours per week, as needed, to support student learning and progress.
Collaboration: Work closely with English professors at Jiangsu University to enhance students' English language development.
Administrative Tasks: Submit final grades within 4 days of the semester end date and coordinate with program managers to ensure quality instruction.
Additional Responsibilities
Organize opportunities for students to practice English, such as speech contests or debates.
Write letters of recommendation for students transferring to the U.S. institution.
Assist students in preparing for interviews and other academic requirements.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of three years teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language.
Education
M.A. in TESOL, English, or a related field, or
B.A. in TESOL, English, or a related field with at least 6 years of collegiate-level teaching experience in China.
Skills
Native or near-native proficiency in English.
Familiarity with English proficiency tests (IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo).
Experience with course design on Canvas and online teaching via Zoom.
Strong internet connection and suitable computer equipment for online teaching.
Additional Experience: Previous work or travel experience in China or Asia is highly desirable.
Dates of Service: September 2 - December 22, 2024 (Fall 2024 semester)
