ABOUT THE ROLE

Inc. is looking for an executive managing editor who will serve as a key newsroom leader in setting and executing the overall vision, tone, and ambition of Inc.’s journalism across all platforms, including online, on social media, in print, through community and at signature brand events. This role will involve directing and coordinating a dynamic team of senior editors, writers, social, video, and podcast teams to produce daily coverage, online features, and print content. The executive managing editor will also liaise with various divisions including ad sales, direct-to-consumer, product, and design, helping communicate and operationalize strategy and initiatives—primarily digital initiatives—across the organization.


Salary range: $120,000 - $170,000 + bonus eligible. Compensation may vary based on relevant experience, skills, industry, and education.


WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Collaborating with the editor-in-chief to implement the overall strategy and vision for Inc., which starts with journalistic excellence and quality
  • Overseeing the budget, contracts and invoices across all channels (digital, print, events, etc.)
  • Managing and directing a team of senior editors, writers, designers, photo editors, and reporters to achieve and even surpass digital objectives on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Overseeing long-term editorial content planning, starting with digital feature stories (including premium/subscriber only stories), news, service journalism, and edit packages, relative to the team’s vision for all platforms
  • Developing and managing editorial lineups and deadlines across media
  • Setting and holding editors accountable to performance standards
  • Taking part in live appearances at Inc. conferences and acting as a representative of the brand at industry events
  • Developing and communicating strategy and initiatives across the organization
  • Providing the ad sales team with content ideas as needed for RFPs, proposals, etc.
  • Developing, in collaboration with the editor-in-chief, career development and enrichment for editorial staff
  • Setting and driving the cultural tone for Inc.’s editorial operations, ensuring alignment with Mansueto Ventures's values


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • 15+ years of journalism experience with an emphasis on managing a digital-first newsroom
  • Experience managing digital content marketing, social media marketing, video and audio programming
  • Experience managing digital design and photo, particularly in a social-first environment
  • Experience working on ad-related projects including sponsored content (for digital) and OSI
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, outstanding news judgment
  • Experience with data-driven decision making and dedication to high-quality journalism
  • Exceptional communication skills and knowledge of cross-media platforms
