Job Summary


The Finance Director is responsible for responsible for budgeting and strategic financial direction, as well as, directing the financial functions of the organization in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and in accordance with financial and risk management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry. The Finance Director oversees various government contracts and grants, including related financial reporting, negotiations and fulfillment of contractual requirements. Additionally, this position will manage the finance and external accounting team and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the financial functions.

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's finance and accounting function and performance
  • Develop and manage annual and division budgets including production of systematic reports to detect and respond to financial variances. 
  • Ensure financial results align with adopted budget and provide snapshot data in relation to operating expenses/revenues.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for Leadership Team, Board of Directors, funders (as needed) and external auditors
  • Evaluate, advise, negotiate and monitor individual grant and contracts, including execution of contractual requirements and reporting
  • Collaborate with auditors in preparation of the annual financial audit and support the preparation of the annual 990 and CT-12 and any other reporting required by funders and regulatory bodies
  • Represent Bridges to Change in external partnerships. Develop and maintain strong relationships with funders, contractors, financial institutions and investors, as appropriate, to best serve the needs of the organization
  • Assist, as required, in raising additional capital at appropriate valuations to enable the organization to meet objectives
  • Collaborates with County on cost reimbursement and other contractual requirements.
  • Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs
  • Improve and strengthen internal controls and segregation of duties in finance and administration departments
  • Enhance, implement and enforce policies and procedures that will improve the overall financial operation and fiscal compliance
  • Approve resource allocations within budget, including personnel, finances, and timelines; makes decisions on exceptions
  • Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline and educate directors on financial issues impacting department budgets
  • Collaborate with Development department to help further philanthropic initiatives within the organization; integrates philanthropic priorities and provides feedback on organizational funding needs
  • Leads Bridges to Change as a member of the executive team to develop, implement, improve, direct, and oversee department related policies, procedures and initiatives, and collaborates to accomplish Bridges to Change strategic goals.
  • Drives a culture of success in alignment with the organizational mission, vision, and values.
  • Assures Bridges to Change equity lens is used in accomplishing all organizational goals.
  • Leads effective communications and matrices with Bridges to Change department leaders, with emphasis on effective services and systems, ensuring a collaborative culture.
  • Engages in proactive risk assessment and mitigation, including appropriate escalation and resolution of issues.
  • Effectively supervises subordinate staff including management of recruitment, performance management, professional development and terminations. Coaches, motivates and recognizes staff.
  • Adheres to organizational standards, policies and procedures and compliance requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The following are the minimum levels required to successfully perform the Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities.

 

  • 3-5 years of senior non-profit and/or government financial management experience, required
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, required; Master’s degree in relevant field, preferred
  • Demonstrated success in strategic finance, budgeting, technical accounting and GAAP standards, contract management and federal/municipal restricted fund management, required
  • Advanced knowledge of grant reporting, Medicaid billing, government contracts, restricted funds and contract negotiation, strongly preferred  
  • Computer literacy; proficient ability with Microsoft applications, required
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Bridges to Change’s auto liability policy requirements
  • Experience working with communities of color and knowledge of the current disparities that certain communities of service users may face more broadly in society, preferred
  • Demonstrated success at working effectively in a diverse, collaborative team environment, with skills in promoting inclusion and cultural responsiveness
  • Experience in collaborating with community partners to identify shortcomings in the organization and in building partnerships to improve outcomes
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to maintain high professional standards at all times with client, staff, and community partners
