Finance Manager

Location and Working Hours: 100% Remote. You must be located in the U.S. and willing to work in the time zones of the continental US. While the work hours are flexible, you must be able to generally work on weekdays (Monday through Friday) during regular business hours Pacific Time Zone (PT).

Job Type: Full-Time, Regular

Salary Range: $80,000-$100,000, DOE, if based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Otherwise, adjusted for geographic location.

Finance Manager Position Summary

The Finance Manager will provide relationship and project management to our nonprofit clients. This position leads teams to complete all client deliverables on time and to Bicycle Accounting’s high standards.

The ideal Finance Manager candidate combines bookkeeping expertise with a robust understanding of nonprofit financial operations. Essential qualities include exceptional communication skills, organizational prowess, and a high level of comfort with technology. Experience in professional services environments is a valuable asset. This role demands astute judgment in prioritizing tasks, requiring the ability to assess daily workloads, delegate effectively, support team members, and manage timely outcomes while maintaining a balanced and productive environment.

This job oversees a lot of moving parts. Your ability to delegate, supervise, and ensure the work is delivered accurately and on time is the crux of the position. Success in this position will mean showing care for all stakeholders (including yourself). As a Finance Manager, you will primarily focus on the following activities:

  • Manage and track multi-faceted projects for multiple clients
  • Act as liaison between clients and Bicycle Accounting’s transactional accounting team to ensure tasks are understood, clearly assigned, and on track
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through consistent, clear communication
  • Ensure all client communications are responded to promptly
  • Own and understand the “how to” of the accounting work and ensure that all processes are documented appropriately
  • Support clients with accounting technology and systems, providing troubleshooting and training on new platforms as needed
  • Provide technical support to clients on payroll and HR-related tasks, including running payroll, managing employee changes, confirming accurate setup for benefits, PTO, etc

Required Skills And Experience

  • Practical and concise communicator
  • Three years (3) of experience with full close-cycle accounting in a nonprofit setting
  • Experience successfully managing complex projects with multiple deadlines and stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage and collaborate across teams
  • Prior experience running payroll
  • Cares about social justice and can speak to its importance
  • Familiarity with government contracts, nonprofit fund accounting, and allocations
  • Brings a passion for leveraging systems and driving process improvements
  • Strong user of Excel and Google Sheets
  • Experience using QuickBooks Online, BILL, and modern payroll platforms

Not required, but may give an advantage

  • Knowledge of practical change management principles
  • Understanding of HR best practices
  • Budgeting and forecasting experience
  • Experience rolling out new technologies across an organization
