Job Description

Join Avista’s Clark Fork River natural resource team as we work towards Bull Trout recovery in the lower Clark Fork River. The primary duties of this position are to assist Avista Fisheries Biologists with the monitoring and evaluation of a new fish passage facility recently constructed below Cabinet Gorge Dam in Idaho. The biologist will assist with the summarization and analysis of technical fisheries data and may assist with drafting technical reports using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access and R. This position requires working knowledge of data analysis and technical writing. In addition, the applicant must have the ability to work with minimal supervision, keep accurate records, adapt to varying work schedules, perform moderate to strenuous physical labor, and work outside in a variety of weather conditions. Additionally, this position will assist with other projects and fieldwork duties including assisting with operation of tributary traps, night electrofishing, stream electrofishing and other duties as assigned. Company provided housing may be available.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in fisheries related field required. Master of Science preferred.
  • Field work with Bull Trout or other native salmonids preferred.
  • Experience with electrofishing, fish traps, weirs, and salmonid data collection preferred.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Detail Oriented.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze and prepare reports based on fishery data.
  • Ability to operate and maintain boats, four-wheel drive vehicles, and small generators.
