- Inspect Loss Sites: Examine and document mechanical system failures on-site
- Data Collection: Gather and analyze data at loss locations
- Code Consultation: Review and apply relevant codes, standards, and regulations
- Evidence Documentation: Record evidence and findings from investigations
- Photography: Capture images of damages and evidence related to fires, explosions, and other losses
- Testing and Analysis: Conduct tests and data acquisition in the field and laboratories
- Failure Analysis: Perform detailed system failure analyses
- Report Writing: Research and compose expert reports on findings
- Witness Interviews: Interview witnesses, property owners, and building occupants
- Court Testimony: Provide expert testimony in court cases related to investigated losses
- Travel: Travel to various project sites as necessary
Required Skills and Knowledge

- Scientific Method: Strong understanding and application of the scientific method in investigations
- NFPA 1033: Stay updated with the requisite knowledge for fire investigations
- Site Navigation: Ability to navigate fire and explosion scenes, including climbing and using ladders
- PPE Certifications: Obtain and maintain necessary personal protective equipment certifications
- Analytical Skills: Analyze loss sites and identify possible failures
- Mechanical Systems: Proficient knowledge of mechanical systems
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Registration: Professional Engineering Registration
- Experience: 4-6 years of relevant fire loss investigative experience preferred
- Located in the Central U.S. or open to relocation there
- Willing for heavy travel
