The Fund Accountant is responsible for managing the financial reporting and accounting processes for a portfolio of investment funds. This role involves maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial principles, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
Prepare and review periodic financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for the assigned funds.
Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all financial reports and statements.
Assist in the preparation of annual audited financial statements and coordinate with external auditors.
Fund Accounting:
Maintain the general ledger and sub-ledgers for assigned funds.
Record daily transactions, including capital calls, distributions, management fees, and other fund-related activities.
Reconcile bank accounts, investment positions, and other balance sheet accounts.
Calculate and report Net Asset Value (NAV) for each fund.
Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:
Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS) and regulatory requirements.
Prepare and submit regulatory filings as required by the jurisdiction of the fund.
Monitor and report on compliance with fund documents and agreements.
Investor Relations:
Prepare investor reports, including capital account statements and investor capital call/distribution notices.
Respond to investor inquiries related to financial statements and account balances.
Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
Assist in the development and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with other members of the fund accounting team, as well as other departments such as operations, tax, and compliance.
Provide support and mentorship to junior accountants as needed.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
Experience:
2-5 years of experience in fund accounting, public accounting, or a related financial services field.
Experience with private equity, hedge funds, or real estate funds is a plus.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
