Job Summary:

The Fund Accountant is responsible for managing the financial reporting and accounting processes for a portfolio of investment funds. This role involves maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial principles, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare and review periodic financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for the assigned funds.
    • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all financial reports and statements.
    • Assist in the preparation of annual audited financial statements and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Fund Accounting:
    • Maintain the general ledger and sub-ledgers for assigned funds.
    • Record daily transactions, including capital calls, distributions, management fees, and other fund-related activities.
    • Reconcile bank accounts, investment positions, and other balance sheet accounts.
    • Calculate and report Net Asset Value (NAV) for each fund.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS) and regulatory requirements.
    • Prepare and submit regulatory filings as required by the jurisdiction of the fund.
    • Monitor and report on compliance with fund documents and agreements.
  • Investor Relations:
    • Prepare investor reports, including capital account statements and investor capital call/distribution notices.
    • Respond to investor inquiries related to financial statements and account balances.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with other members of the fund accounting team, as well as other departments such as operations, tax, and compliance.
    • Provide support and mentorship to junior accountants as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 2-5 years of experience in fund accounting, public accounting, or a related financial services field.
    • Experience with private equity, hedge funds, or real estate funds is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
    • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
