Reporting To: Senior Medical Director

Dates: October 7, 2024 - January 31, 2025

Location: Newton, MA, Chapel Hill, NC, New York, NY, or Minneapolis, MN

Pay: $40-$50 per hour, depending on qualifications; 40 hours per week

Job Description:

As part of Well's Health Content team, you'll revise clinical content into consumer-facing "stories" and produce intuitive, engaging health and wellness experiences for our diverse members who use the Well app. You'll also have the opportunity to research and author content into short-form, digestible tidbits that inspire healthy changes, empower people with information, and build health literacy. This role requires experience covering science/health topics, mastery of the written language, a hefty dose of creativity and fun, and an understanding of human behavior and motivation to communicate a variety of health topics in the Well voice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform editorial and copy editing to give our in-app content flows a high caliber of copywriting and storytelling
  • Design, write, and review health and wellness content for the Well app, ensuring that it is accurate, engaging, and accessible
  • Research and synthesize relevant clinical literature on health and wellness topics, simplifying the research to convey educational messages in an approachable, original, and engaging manner
  • Utilize behavioral techniques within the content to promote members' motivational readiness, and/or self-efficacy. This includes optimizing opportunities for members to feel empowered and effective in improving health habits and managing chronic conditions
  • Take an empathetic approach to understanding the tone of written work, knowing when it's time (and not time) to crack a joke, play it serious, or keep it neutral
  • Take personal responsibility for keeping all Well systems and data, including sensitive member data, secure and safe, according to Well data and security policies and HIPAA guidelines

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in professional editing/science writing/health journalism/medical communications or similar field
  • Ability to dive deep into clinical literature and translate information to a wide audience
  • Interest in self efficacy theory and behavior change
  • Flexible self-starter who is willing to learn, adjust, and adapt
  • Open to feedback and guidance
  • HIghly collaborative and able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to produce high-quality, high-volume health content with minimal oversight
  • Meticulous and logical attention to detail, and able to manage deliverable timelines in accordance with project delivery process

Writing Samples:

After reviewing resumes, we will follow up with qualified candidates to request 3 to 5 published articles that show an ability to communicate complex research to a lay audience.
