Austin PBS seeks a journalist to act as host and producer for its new weekly news and feature program along with other public affairs content. You are a ‘news junkie’ with a driving curiosity about complex societal issues and the unique challenges of marginalized and underserved communities, along with an appreciation for the creative and cultural diversity of the Austin area.
You’ll join a passionate team of journalists and content creators striving to put the power of public media to use for community good. This role supports a key strategic priority for Austin PBS: engaging and growing an audience for news and public affairs content through an integrated multichannel (television, digital, social) approach.
Responsibilities Include
Host the weekly news and feature program
Work collaboratively to contribute ideas for show topics and discussions
Conduct research, interviews and be able to write about various topics
Manage communication with guests and external partners
Interact with audience on web, social media or at community events
Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
Mentor aspiring journalists and storytellers
Requirements
Relevant skills and knowledge include:
Bachelor's degree in video, photography, journalism, or other similar related fields (or the equivalent combination of education and experience)
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communications skills
Informed in a wide range of topics beyond current events, including culture, local government and public policy
Personal integrity, fairness, and the credibility needed to gain trust across all levels of an organization
Comfort with teleconferencing software like Zoom or Google Meet
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Five years experience in news gathering or relevant field
Preferred But Not Required
Bilingual
Experience writing in AP Style
Exhibit an understanding of public media mission and values
Familiarity with the Central Texas community
Essential Job Functions
Frequently appear in front of a camera for periods of 30 minutes or longer
Regularly operate computer and phone equipment
Regularly interact and exchange information with others, both verbal and written

This is a full time salaried position that is currently hybrid. Annual salary of $75,000 + commensurate with experience.
