I talked with the amazing Dinty Moore about my new essay collection Homing: Instincts of a Rustbelt Feminist for Brevity's blog. "Writing ... is about taking risks. I would say Pittsburgh shaped me by letting me be, by giving me so many vistas, by making room for me but not coddling me in any way whatsoever." https://lnkd.in/eZv85ZhS cc: University Of Nebraska Press

George Allen: A Football Life featured in Hampton Roads Weekly Check out this article that I submitted to the Hampton Roads Weekly in S.E. Virginia on my book, George Allen: A Football Life. In a first-person account, I explained why I felt it was incumbent upon me to explore the life of the legendary football coach and one of the most fascinating figures in NFL history: https://lnkd.in/edBjHwtg. Many thanks to Brooke Allen, George Allen's granddaughter and the daughter of former Virginia Governor and U.S. Senator George Allen. Brooke, the director of sales at the Hampton Roads Weekly, coordinated the submission. https://lnkd.in/eD-kUCGk https://lnkd.in/ejZs2jNG Hampton Roads Weekly University Of Nebraska Press Tayler Lord #Redskins

Wonderful review of my debut essay collection, Homing: Instincts of a Rustbelt Feminist, in Sunday's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The book released September 1, 2024. (Reading release in Pittsburgh at White Whale Bookstore this Friday, in conversation with Beth Kracklauer!) “….Ultimately, these nuanced essays are a celebration of the community Flick has formed as an adult and of Pittsburgh itself. Though she describes the city as a place that “resists being easily known,” she also frequently captures its character in such lines as, “Pittsburgh, once the poster child for the busted-out, beaten-down, polluted Rustbelt city, weathered the post-industrial storm and has risen up in recent years to become a media darling.” People used to ask her why she lived on the South Side Slopes, Flick writes. ‘But they don’t anymore, because now Pittsburgh is new and emitting urban pheromones across the nation. But a city this old and battered can’t ever really rise above its roots. So I’m here. Up in the least likely place I could find, surrounded by steps, and suddenly they’re a metaphor for something.’” University Of Nebraska Press https://lnkd.in/e-bUe_wz
