The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the city towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
Responsibilities
The DOC has a unique opportunity for an experienced candidate to support the Employee Services Unit in Human Resources. The ideal candidate will be responsible for handling a wide range of confidential administrative and clerical support related tasks, including but not limiting to:

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.

Responsibilities
The DOC has a unique opportunity for an experienced candidate to support the Employee Services Unit in Human Resources. The ideal candidate will be responsible for handling a wide range of confidential administrative and clerical support related tasks, including but not limiting to:
- Process various types of employment verifications, which include monitoring the unit’s inbox.
- The ability to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Viso for the purposes of
- Corresponds to various facilities and stakeholders’ inquiries.
- Assist in generating reports and documents requested for distribution.
- Draft written correspondence pertaining to Employee Verifications for review by the unit
- Schedule and Conduct exit interviews for the Department using Outlook.
- Request clearances from various disciplinary units within the Department and oversight
- Collect and document the Departments property from employee (s) exiting the Department.
- Follow up with internal stakeholders ensuring all separation processes are accounted for
- Work on special projects.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
- Ability to gather sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality on all matters. - Ability to work with diverse groups as part of a team and/or independently. - Ability to establish positive working relationships with multiple units and different levels of staff. - Excellent writing, communication, inter-personal, analytical, research, problem-solving, and organizational skills. - Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments. - Ability to be detail oriented.
