Within this framework, our IP Group is responsible for all aspects of Lam’s Intellectual Property. We are looking to fill an IP counsel position.

This Position Involves

  • Implementing Lam’s IP strategy, program, and policies in a cross-functional team environment for Lam’s equipment and process technologies. You will be working with chemistry, physics, software, mechanical, and electrical engineering technologies.
  • Reporting to senior Intellectual Property Counsel for the Deposition Product Group.
  • Collaborating across the broader Legal team to address IP issues in agreements and disputes.
  • Managing Lam’s patent applications for your business organization in the US and internationally.
  • Occasional adversarial – litigation, oppositions, etc. – work including risk assessments and IP evaluation.

Position can sit 100% remote from most places in the US.

What You’ll Do

  • Be a registered patent attorney or agent, and one who wants to grow into a multi-faceted IP counsellor.
  • Be intellectually curious, creative, innovative, accessible, and approachable.
  • Have excellent interpersonal English-language communication skills: written, oral, and presentation.
  • Be able to distill and communicate the essence of complex IP matters.
  • Be hard-working, dedicated, and motivated with a strong team-oriented approach. We are too close a team to accommodate ‘lone wolves.’
  • Have excellent legal and analytical skills coupled with a good business sense. A strong technical background is preferred.
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with short deadlines. Able to handle pressure.
  • Preferably have experience supporting cross-functional teams and supporting/developing IP programs in a corporate environment.
  • Not have ‘sharp elbows!’ We are a co-operative group and will not tolerate people who aren’t team players. There are no exceptions.

Who We’re Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in patent law required:
    • J.D. or equivalent, U.S. Patent Bar, and US state bar (admission or the ability to join the Oregon Bar required for Oregon based candidates); or
    • Registered U.S. Patent Agent
    • Background or experience in the semiconductor equipment and/or semiconductor industry with an ability to understand advanced semiconductor fabrication technologies.
    • If a J.D., a B.S. or higher in a semiconductor or related discipline: Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc. preferred.
    • If a U.S. Patent Agent, a Ph. D. in a semiconductor or related discipline: Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc. preferred.

    Preferred Qualifications

    2+ years of intellectual property portfolio management experience in a corporation preferred.

    Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
