The Opportunity

Perkins Eastman has an immediate need for an Intermediate Project Designer in multi-family residential, large scale, mixed use, workplace, transportation, master planning, senior living, science/tech and hospitality projects for Perkins Eastman Architects DPC to work at our New York, NY location. May telecommute up to two days per week. Little domestic travel may be involved.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in project feasibility development and evaluation of site, zoning, parking, build location, exterior systems of movement, and solar orientation.
  • Develop test fits. Assist with master planning services that include site and building components, interior systems of movement, blocking and stacking.
  • Analyze comparative systems with engineers and consultants related to structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical disciplines.
  • Work with specifications team, consultants and vendors to assist with technical specifications development.
  • Assist project manager in developing statements of probable construction cost.
  • Prepare area calculations in alignment with ABOA and BOMA standards of development. Provide building information modeling management of digital project components, including development of BIM execution plan.
  • Assist with construction administration phase of project, including independent submittal review, RFI investigation and response, and limited site observation.
  • Lead sustainability management and research for project, including incorporation of design elements, task level management, and scheduling specific alignment with sustainability goals and objectives and checklist development.
  • Consult with domestic and international clients, under direct supervision of a licensed architect, to determine functional and spatial requirements of new structure or renovation and prepare information regarding design, specifications, materials, estimated costs, and construction time.
  • Use computer-assisted design software and equipment to prepare interior and exterior project designs and plans.
  • Assist project manager and studio team with preparation of work plans and permit process, including system component research.
  • Perform design activities such as IBC, ANSI/ADA code research, material and building systems research, laying out program components. Refine design options and develop building details.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have Bachelor’s of Architecture or related field, 6 years relevant interior and exterior domestic design experience, and required skills.
  • In the alternative, must have Master’s of Architecture or related field, 5 years relevant interior and exterior domestic design experience, and required skills.
  • Required skills include: (1 yr exp in): design and documentation of multi-family residential, workplace, commercial/ mixed use, large scale, transportation, master planning, senior living, science/tech, and hospitality projects; developing the creative and technical process throughout the life of a project, which includes conceptual development, renovation and expansion projects including existing building survey and documentation; maintaining design continuity throughout construction documents; training and mentoring staff; preparing client presentations and design drawings; coordinating consultant teams; generating design services proposals; reviewing project documents for design conformance and quality control; coordinating construction issues with clients, contractors, local officials, and Project Architect; and (6 months exp in): 2D software including AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects and Adobe InDesign, and Affinity Creative Suite; 3D software including Revit, Rhino, Python, Maya and SketchUp; V-ray and Enscape; Grasshopper; and Newforma Project Center, Microsoft Outlook, and Deltek Vision.
  • All applicants also must possess 1 year of international design experience.
  • Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.
  • Applicants may be required to submit a portfolio.

Type: Hybrid. 3 days in office 2 days working remotely, flexible days/working hours.
