Position Summary:

This position will join the Agency trading team to help streamline our operations and upgrade the desk’s workflow. This person will be trained as a junior trader and learn about fixed income markets, agency, SSA, money markets, and structured corporate bonds. This position will gain a working knowledge of the required trading systems and use all previous experience or training to modernize our systems. Over time this person will learn and assist with the documentation of all underwriting activities and be responsible for running pricing models for the desk and salesforce as well as inventory runs and sales queries in all products that the desk is currently engaged. This person will learn about rates, credit, futures, and options trading. With a working knowledge of these fundamentals, he/she will be exposed to running a risk book and hedging with derivative instruments. This person will also learn about the fixed income sales process and work with the current sales force to help provide more sales tools as well as prospect and grow the existing client base. This is a perfect role for someone that is willing to learn, self-motivated, and team oriented.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist trading team with producing and disseminating daily trading markets and informational pieces.
  • Provide immediate and/or backup coverage on incoming and outgoing phone calls. Ensure that internal trading colleagues’ and external client inquiries are handled in a timely manner.
  • Monitor market information from Bloomberg, Tradeweb and MarketAxess and other sources to ensure it is disseminated as needed to trading and sales team members.
  • Gather, organize and communicate inquiries from sales team and assist in sourcing bonds from firm inventory, the “Street” and portfolio management counterparties.
  • Assist with generating relative and absolute value trade ideas.
  • Provide assistance/back up coverage when the trading team is out the office; monitoring trading positions and communication systems.
  • Proficiency with the timely inputting and execution of trading tickets, in accordance with all FINRA regulations and requirements.
  • Work with internal back office/trade settlement areas to address any issues related to the timely settlement of all taxable fixed income trades.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of macro-economic news and trends.


Required Licenses And Registrations

  • FINRA certification SIE, Series 7 and Series 63 are required within 90 days of employment.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Math or Engineering is strongly desired. Work experience/internship in a financial services or investment banking firm is desired but not required.

  • Prior knowledge of electronic market and trading systems (CodeStreet, MarketAxess, Bloomberg, etc.).
  • Preference for some familiarity with programing languages (VB, Python, Azure, generative AI applications etc.)
