Job Description

The Operations Manager will direct production while collaborating with process & product engineering, test engineering, quality, planning, supply chain, etc., to achieve plant cost, quality, and service objectives while meeting all safety, health, and environmental requirements. The Operations Manager will be responsible for Microchips Clocks & Space, Defense and Avionics business unit as well as lead the business units service/repair function. You will provide guidance and direction for all operations personnel in your assigned facility. Your job is to lead, coach, mentor, influence your team to attain operational site goals, BU goals, Systems Operations goals, and ultimate Microchip Corporate goals while aligning to the Microchip Guiding values.

  • Assist in the development of an operating plan aligned with department, business, and manufacturing strategies to meet key performance objectives.
  • Lead execution of the operating plans to meet manufacturing and service objectives.
  • Assure manufacturing capability and performance improvement in support of department, business, and manufacturing strategies.
  • Provide focus and direction to plant personnel to assure knowledge and support of plant manufacturing priorities and requirements.
  • Maintain and assure the efficient operation of all plant assets and equipment.
  • Meet all safety and environmental regulatory requirements. Create and maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Assure growth in talent and capability of the department staff.
  • Build effective relationships within the department, business, plant staff groups, and with key customers and suppliers where required.
  • Champion Focus Factory, Factory Certification, BPMS, 6S, lean 100, and other Operations manufacturing initiatives as required.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Progressive responsibilities in operations and/or field service leadership, including operations or engineering department supervisor experience.
  • Experience in leading teams and departments in meeting continuous improvement goals through system RCCA methodologies and tools, step-change performance improvements, innovation, expanding technical capability, work redesign or other change efforts.
  • Experience coordinating activities within functional responsibility and collaborating with other groups to achieve results. Experience with multiple manufacturing processes for assembly, test, and integration of electromechanical subsystems and components. Demonstrated track record of growing talent.


  • Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills

    • Electronics assembly workmanship to IPC 610 class 3 – J-STD Space addendum preferred
    • General knowledge of fabrication technologies; brazing, welding, machining, EDM, die bonding, vacuum processing, torqueing, soldering, de-solder, SMT/Thru hole, box-build, cable
    • Experience in staff or project roles such as Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Test Engineering, Quality or Applications Engineering, Supply Chain, or a project assignment
    • Exposure to global manufacturing, outsourcing models, and business through work or project assignments.
    • NPI experience (Milestone Lifecycle Process), understanding the process for introducing new product designs into production release.
    • Understanding of principles of Lean Manufacturing and six-sigma and how to effectively utilize the selected tools
    • U.S. person status is required as this position supports ITAR compliant site.

    • Excellent verbal / written communications and interpersonal skills
    • Strong team building skills necessary to lead a multi-disciplined team
    • Experience with new product introductions and the design hand off to manufacturing process with focus on manufacturability.
    • Ability to create complex project schedules within Microsoft Project
    • Lean, Six Sigma and other Continuous Improvement experience
    • Understanding of Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) with proficiency in AX-2012
    • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications
    • Experience with materials planning process – forecast, SIOP, MRP, Build plan, MPS, WO execution,
    • Experience with Inventory Management; cycle counts, gross vs net, turns vs DOH, optimization approach
