Manager, Payroll

SUMMARY OF DUTIES



This position manages the preparation and distribution of the Company's payroll at the corporate and subsidiary level; oversees the preparation of filing of required reports and/or payments to government agencies and other organizations; manages Payroll employees.


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED



  • Responsible for planning, development, implementation and maintenance of payroll automation needs associated with payroll information, retrieval capabilities and reports.

  • Interfaces with internal and external auditors regarding processing of payroll and government or legal issues.

  • Coordinates payroll inquiries and special projects with employees from multiple sources including management, banks, governmental agencies, etc.

  • Manages department personnel by interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating job performance, disciplining, scheduling work and other related responsibilities.

  • Ensures timely and accurate processing of system-wide payroll for corporate and subsidiary locations and employees.

  • Manges corporate payroll function; oversees maintenance of payroll system; and, determines resolution for routine payroll related issues and recommends options/solutions for unusual situations to appropriate management.

  • Interprets and enforces Company policies and government regulations affecting payroll procedures.

  • Responsible for integrating newly acquired subsidiaries into Payroll System.

  • Works with Human Resources to ensure employees are paid within federal and state legal requirements, and within Company policy and procedure.

  • Oversees the preparation of payroll and unemployment taxes and employee W-2's.

  • Assists Payroll staff as a liaison with other departments and locations to resolve payroll problems.

  • Responsible for the compilation and preparation of payroll related data, reports, checks and transmittals.

  • Responsible for information relating to the General Ledger Accounts. Balances General Ledger payroll account and prepares journal entries.

  • Responsible for the accurate reporting and processing of 401K issues including contributions, loans, repayment of loans, company matching contributions and processing of wires.

  • Oversees the reconciliation of bank accounts and General Ledger accounts.

  • Performs other related duties, as required.

SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

  • Six years of accounting experience, with four of those years in a supervisory capacity.

  • Demonstrated computer skills preferably spreadsheets, word processing, database and other applicable software programs.

  • Knowledge of payroll laws and requirements related to taxes and deductions for hourly and salary pay.

  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to be self-motivated and detailed oriented.

  • Must be a team player, have the ability to work well with others and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
