MANUFACTURING LAB MANAGER - PT (Grant Funded)

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.


Daley College ’s Manufacturing Technology and Engineering Center partners with American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) in operating an AGMA National Gear Training Center to provide practical learning experiences to students enrolled in the program.


The equipment and capabilities at MTEC enable students to participate in a hands-on curriculum that prepares them for the technological advancements in the engineering and manufacturing industries. The facility includes: a manufacturing high bay space, CNC machining equipment, a maker space, electrical and PLC trainers, materials and quality assurance labs, computer labs and administrative space.


This is grant funded temporary position with the length of assignment expectation of 3 years


Primary Objective


Reporting to the Dean, College to Careers, the Manufacturing Lab Manager-PT supports the day-to-day operations of classroom and lab instruction provided to students enrolled in the MTEC programs. Responsible for ensuring that the engineering and manufacturing labs are full prepared, including required specialty software, and supplied with the necessary tools, parts, and materials. Arranges maintenance and repair services for equipment as required to ensure proper operation and calibration. Assists the Dean with tours and visitors. Performs related duties as required.


Essential Duties


  • Supports Instructors in the organization, maintenance and repair of manufacturing educational equipment and facilities.
  • Sets-up equipment for various engineering and manufacturing labs; ensures equipment is in proper working condition and needed class/lab materials are available.
  • Monitors the maintenance of MTEC facilities and equipment, working with instructors and staff to schedule repairs and servicing of equipment.
  • Ensures manufacturing equipment is regularly serviced per vendor agreements.
  • Maintains inventory records of MTEC equipment and assets.
  • Works with Instructors and college administrators to plan and schedule the procurement of equipment and supplies for manufacturing programs.
  • Prepares purchase requisitions and places orders with approved vendors. Tracks the status of purchase orders to ensure timely shipment and delivery of equipment and supplies.
  • Checks and verifies delivery of equipment and supplies. Resolves delivery discrepancies.
  • Monitors the installation of equipment.
  • Coordinates with Business Office to track and monitor expenditures and account balances.
  • Assists staff in organizing tours and events at facilities.
  • Works with instructors and suppliers to provide required access to specialty software for manufacturing and engineering trainin


Qualifications


  • An Associate degree from an accredited college
  • Five years of experience purchasing equipment or supplies, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • A combination of education and experience may be taken into consideration
  • Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and supplies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to multi-task with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to identify problems, think through options and recommend solutions
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
