Position Overview

We're seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Food Packaging Division, supporting operations across eight manufacturing facilities. This role is crucial in designing, implementing, developing, and improving manufacturing processes by analyzing product requirements and manufacturing methods. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining quality and safety standards, managing document control, and supporting the engineering needs of our manufacturing facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes through research, design, modification, and testing of methods and equipment
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency through process analysis and method enhancement
  • Ensure product and process quality by designing test methods, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes
  • Provide decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs
  • Collaborate with external partners for tooling design, simulation, and production as needed
  • Perform additional duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of five years of manufacturing experience with increasing responsibility
  • Experience in high-speed metal packaging (preferably related to Beverage, Food, or Aerosol packaging)
  • Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) preferred
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing principles including SPC, Six Sigma, 5S, SMED, and Lean Manufacturing
  • Excellent project management, time management, and organizational skills
  • Proven success in coaching and leading teams to resolve specific problems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

Additional Information

  • This is a remote traveling position
  • Candidate must live near a major airport in the Midwest to Eastern United States
  • 60-80% travel required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands, and reach with hands and arms
  • May be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus

Working Conditions

  • Work will be performed both in office settings and plant environments
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vehicular traffic, and a range of temperatures
  • Noise levels may frequently be loud
