Overview

Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Material Control Manager in Austin, TX to join our team.

The Material Control Manager is responsible for maintaining control and accuracy over all inventories, including planning, scheduling, cost, warehousing, receiving, and shipping activities to ensure a high level of support in the maintenance and repair of railroad equipment. The Manager will administer policies and procedures related to purchase orders, work orders, requisitions, shipping and receiving as well as the storage of different kinds of materials, supplies and equipment, including hazardous materials. The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the material control department and is a key contributor in acquiring materials and parts needed for the repair of rail rolling stock.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
  • Manage and coordinates the distribution of materials for production.
  • Preparing and maintaining inventory records.
  • Compiling inventory reports for distribution to management.
  • Monitoring shipping preparation and loading.
  • Research and resolve inventory shortages and discrepancies.
  • Monitors and trains team on addressing defective parts, including identifying defective or damaged items and the return process.
  • Provides support to maintenance operations in scheduling all material flow issues to meet production schedules and requirements.
  • Ensures adequate inventory of materials and products in accordance with inventory cycles and operational requirements.
  • Conducts periodic inventory analysis to solve inventory problems.
  • Ensures inventory control procedures are followed.
  • Adhere to established company policies, procedures, terms and conditions and legal matters that affect purchasing policies.
  • Maintain receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Safeguard warehouse operations and contents by monitoring security procedures and protocols.
  • Lead by example and motivate people to create a challenging, empowering, and collaborative working environment.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience and knowledge of the railroad industry's concepts, practices, and procedures specifically in management of materials and sourcing within a maintenance environment.
  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and record keeping skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products such Excel and Word, inventory software and the Internet.
  • Good oral and written communication, math, and negotiation skills along with excellent technical documentation and record keeping skills.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Regularly lift weight up to 50 pounds to waist height.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds to waist height and carry for a distance up to 10 feet.
  • Work in a confined access/space environment with a width of 24 inches.
  • Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind.
  • Able to tolerate repetitive movements: bending and overhead reaching.
  • Regularly ascend/descend a platform with a height of up to 12 inches from the floor.
  • Regularly ascend/descend a ladder while carrying 35 pounds of equipment.
  • Regularly climb stairs while carrying 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Frequently bend, crouch, stand and sit for extended time.
  • Able to work in a safety sensitive work environment.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
