Job Description
Minimum of 5 to 7 years' experience in compounding/formulating, product development, testing, and launch of materials. Position requires a strong theoretical knowledge of physical properties and materials science relating to the use of such materials in friction material composites. Analytical evaluation typically includes DSC, TGA, FTIR, GC Mass spectroscopy, elemental and phase identification, particle size, optical and electron microscopy, particle sizing and compound identification. Experience with the use of these materials in friction applications such as brakes, clutches and drivetrains are a plus. Some experience with carbonaceous and ceramic and other material systems is helpful. Familiarity with powder metal processing and sintering is required. Practical experience with the use of Six Sigma techniques is desirable but not essential as formal on-site training is available and encouraged. A history of successful commercialization of metallic friction materials is preferred.
Summary
The Materials Engineer will play a crucial role in product development, utilizing core skills in manufacturing and laboratory experience. Premium skills in project scheduling, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks will be key in executing projects efficiently. With relevant skills in mechanical knowledge, quality control, and plastics blow molding, the engineer will contribute to research and development efforts. This position reports to the Engineering Manager and requires a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, data collection, and GD&T.
The emphasis of this position is the development of new products and processes rather than basic research. An orientation towards working within a structured product design process is important. The individual would be responsible for the development of new products and new processes as well as the evaluation of current products or process to meet customer requirements. Responsibilities include assisting manufacturing facilities with the implementation of new products or processes and providing technical assistance to Sales Managers and Product Managers. The individual will also work with customer engineering departments on technical data and the application of new or revised products.
