We are a dedicated team at the forefront of data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping through the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED). Our mission is to provide open-access, high-quality data and analysis to inform global discourse on conflict dynamics. From journalism to policymaking, our work plays a crucial role in understanding political violence and protests worldwide.
The Role
Join us as a Myanmar Researcher, where you'll play a vital role in gathering, reviewing, and managing political violence and protest data across Myanmar. This fully remote position requires 35 to 40 hours per week, providing flexibility to work from any location with reliable internet access. As an entry-level contractor, you'll delve into detailed data collection and management, honing your skills while contributing to our mission.
Responsibilities
Collect and record political violence incidents from various sources, including news reports and NGO documentation, using our standardized Excel template.
Ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability through meticulous review and management processes.
Participate in comprehensive ACLED training to elevate your skills and proficiency in data analysis and coding.
Collaborate with a diverse team to provide holistic coverage of political violence events, from protests to conflicts.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in conflict studies, peacebuilding, international development, or related fields.
Proficiency in Excel and fluency in English and Burmese are essential.
Working Knowledge Of An Additional Asian Language (preferred).
Experience in desk-based research and working under deadlines with minimal supervision.
Strong attention to detail, receptiveness to feedback, and a passion for conflict research or peace-building.
Access to necessary equipment including a computer, reliable internet, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Remuneration
Compensation: $20 per hour
