POSITION SUMMARY:
DBT-PTSD Specialists employ pre-licensed therapists who have a background or interest in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and are learning to work with clients with borderline personality disorder, self-harm and destructive behaviors, and suicidal ideation. Ideally, this individual has had exposure to other trauma modalities such as EMDR, ART (accelerated resolution therapy), AIR (adaptive internal relational) Network, Prolonged Exposure, or Somatic Experiencing.
Compensation: The pay range for this position is up to $70,000.00 per year, depending on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, work experience, licensure/certifications, etc.
- RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under the direction of Sr. DBT-PTSD Specialist, complete diagnostic assessment, treatment planning functional assessments, and clinical session notes within established timeframe.
- Participate in weekly team consultation meetings.
- Initiate upon-admission discharge planning in collaboration with the patient.
- Under the direction of the senior DBT-PTSD Specialist, utilizes the skill of writing individualized, behavioral, and measurable treatment goals based on psychosocial assessment and psychiatric evaluation information.
- Under the direction of the Sr. DBT-PTSD Specialist, Clinicians will facilitate two groups, potentially facilitating up to three in the short term, depending on clinic needs. Clinicians will also acquire groups at the rate they build their individual DBT caseload (1 group per 5 individual clients served).
- Provide real-time phone coaching to DBT clients. Coaching sessions could fall outside of regular business hours. Seek guidance as needed to prepare for coaching sessions.
- Obtain insurance benefit information authorization for treatment and perform ongoing utilization reviews. Seek guidance as needed.
- Demonstrate skill in documentation that meets all regulatory and DBT-PTSD standards. Files all progress notes in the medical record within 24 - 48 hours of the date of service.
- Responds appropriately to patient’s requests. Seek guidance as needed.
- Under the direction of the senior DBT-PTSD Specialist, the clinician provides comprehensive education, instructions, and advocacy information designed to assist the patient and significant others in identifying and securing needed healthcare follow-up or next-level care services.
- Provides referring physicians and psychotherapists weekly updates on patient compliance and treatment progress.
- Adheres to DBT-PTSD’s Policies and Procedures.
- Stay current with research and advancements in the field of therapy.
- Prepare and assist with audits when requested.
- Be a part of the DBT Team according to the guidelines outlined as a state-certified IOP DBT clinic (program)
Education / Training:
- A master’s degree in psychology, counseling, marriage & family therapy, or social work from a regionally accredited academic program.
- Pre-licensed as a clinical mental health professional in Minnesota (Behavioral Health Counselor, Pre-Licensed Therapist, etc.)
- Ability and willingness to provide services to adults and adolescents.
- Ability and willingness to service patients primarily on an outpatient basis.
- Flexibility to meet when patients are available, including at least one evening per week.
- Evidence of a solid level of professionalism within the field.
- Solid clinical understanding and ability to grow in providing outpatient psychotherapy.
- Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
- Ability to respect diversity and integrate issues of culture into case conceptualizations.
- Ability to engage with patients who may be ambivalent about treatment.
- Ability to adapt interventions to patients’ strengths, skills, and developmental levels.
- Commitment to empowering patients to solve their problems when necessary.
- Ability to intervene decisively, when necessary, to protect patient safety.
- Ability to comply with clinic documentation standards and best professional practices.
- Previous experience operating within an outpatient clinic setting (preferred)
- Ability to establish effective therapeutic relationships.
- Sufficient understanding of technology applications or products to learn and understand software products at a detailed level.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication skills, relationship-building, and conflict-management skills.
- Excellent listening skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Knowledge of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) principles and theories.
- Exposure to provide individual and group DBT therapy.
- Ability to assess and diagnose mental health issues.
- Exposure to work associated with developing and implementing a DBT treatment plan.
- Ability to identify and target behavioral patterns that lead to maladaptive coping.
- Ability to provide crisis intervention and manage challenging behaviors.
- Ability to collaborate with other mental health professionals.
- Understanding of the ethical implications of providing DBT treatment.
- Ability to provide education and support to family members and caregivers.
- Knowledge of community resources and how to access them.
- Environment – Office environment, up to 25% travel required.
- Physical Requirements – Sitting, standing, walking, and keyboard use.
