Come join a growing multidisciplinary team of designers and engineers designing the next generation nuclear power plant. Holtec International is seeking Nuclear Core Design Engineers to perform reactor physics analysis and benchmarking activities in support of the nuclear core design, as needed for development and licensing of the SMR-300 PWR integral light water reactor. This position requires a highly-motivated individual with the flexibility and willingness to work on a wide array of technical and regulatory topics,and eager to learn new skills to create feasible/practical solutions to challenging design problems. Engineer will be part of a team executing a U.S. Government cost-shared development program requiring efficient completion of engineering assignments.
Typical Responsibilities would include:
- Design, modeling, and analyses of the nuclear core and evaluation of the fuel cycle performance for the SMR-300 PWR integral light water reactor
- Develop nuclear parameters to provide input to safety analysis (transient and accident analysis), provide data for startup physics testing, support operations (acceptable limits for operations), and predict core follow
- Computer code qualification and validation
- Report preparation and licensing documentation
- Participation in meetings with clients, collaborators, and with the United State Nuclear Regulatory Commission
- BS in Nuclear Engineering or physics (or closely related field) from an accredited college of university
- 0-5 years of demonstrated experience in the nuclear industry or similarly applicable (i.e., academia or national laboratory)
- Demonstrated neutronics or radiation transport analytical skills with CASMO/SIMULATE, MCNP, or other similar analysis code packages
- General knowledge of nuclear power plant operations/physics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency required in Microsoft Office suite of PC applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
- MS in nuclear engineering with emphasis on reactor physics or radiation transport
- 5+ years of professional experience in the nuclear industry or similar, especially performing engineering calculations/evaluations and using tools such as CASMO/SIMULATE
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency in nuclear analysis code qualification and validation using higher-order codes or benchmarking data
- Experience with computer languages such as Python
- Experience preparing licensing documents for submittal to NRC and comprehensive knowledge of NUREG-0800 (NRC Standard Review Plan for LWRs) Chapter 4 and 15 requirements
- Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
