House Operations Nurse Manager

Position Details:

  • The House Operations Manager (HOM) coordinates and facilitates patient care functions within the 26 units of this 616-bed adult hospital and academic medical center during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The HOM ensures hospital policies and procedures are followed and notifies appropriate nursing directors and/or hospital administrators of any complex or unusual problems. This role focuses on planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and improving health care operations, clinical education programs, and research programs.
  • House Operations Nurse Manager oversees all Adult divisions (Behavioral Health, Intensive Specialty Services, Medical Surgical Services, and Emergency Medicine)


Required Experience and Education:

Work Experience:

  • 3+ years of nursing leadership and supervisory or management experience (Charge Nurse or supervisor level).
  • Current experience in inpatient, intermediate, and/or critical care clinical practice (3-5 years preferred).
  • Certification in a role or specialty through a nationally recognized professional nursing certification body (if not currently certified, must seek certification as soon as eligible).
  • Demonstrates time management, workload organization, delegation, attention to detail, and thoroughness.
  • Effective teaching skills for staff and patient education.
  • Professional experience fostering a welcoming and respectful work environment.

Educational Experience:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required, or if not, then a MSN.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa or ability to obtain an Iowa license upon hire.
  • Master's degree in Nursing or related field preferred. If not, must obtain an advanced degree in nursing, health care administration, or business administration within five years of beginning the position.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience in an Academic Medical Center.
  • Magnet hospital experience.
  • Experience overseeing multiple groups or units.
