Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for an Operations Controller to be based out of Dallas, TX. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this will be a key Finance member of the HDPE Strategic Business Unit (SBU). This position will partner closely with the HDPE functional and plant leaders providing guidance and support regarding most financial matters. The Operations Controller will help build a team and support multiple plants (6+) across the business. In addition to hands on management of financial processes and performance management, the Controller will contribute, and in some areas, provide leadership in strategic initiative deployment. The Controller will interact with the Corporate Accounting and External Reporting department to continuously improve accuracy, timeliness, and quality of financial reporting, as well as with corporate Financial Planning and Analysis to improve and maintain forecasting and reporting processes.

The HDPE organization consists of multiple manufacturing plants treated as profit centers.

What You’ll Do:

  • Ensure compliance with internal and external policies and monthly reporting requirements
  • Hands on oversight of all manufacturing related finance processes including standard cost development and maintenance,
  • Engage with Engineering / functional areas to ensure all bills of materials and routings are accurate and costed properly.
  • Analyze and provide insight on actual to standard variances, conversion cost, and other plant performance metrics generated by operational activity.
  • Be a change champion and support the JD Edwards rollout across the SBU
  • Ensure consistency in process and procedure across the multiple business systems in place.
  • Lead and proactively drive business process changes to eliminate waste and improve accuracy.
  • Review monthly financial results with the VP Operations and Plant managers including key metrics providing financial analysis and insight across the organization
  • Facilitate monthly plant reviews with key individuals within the Strategic Business Unit
  • Maintain ownership of documenting and ensuring SOX and internal compliance with control standards for the business unit. Develop relationships with internal and external audit partners and support the internal and external audit processes.
  • Maintain accurate accounting of inventory. Ensure physical inventories are performed to schedule.
  • Provide financial oversight and leadership concerning capital investment decision and reporting. Partner with plant personnel to effectively complete the Capital Equipment Request (“CER”) form in order to justify the investment prior to the SBU leadership and Vice President of Finance and Business Unit President reviews.
  • Lead, develop and/or recruit financial personnel to support the financial operations as needed
  • Collaborate with the broader Atkore Finance teams utilizing best practices and sharing resources
  • Support the Operations and Plant Managers in developing detailed, site level financial forecasts and plans based on broader business assumptions.
  • Work closely with the Lean Management team on cost improvements and project savings validations. Recommend metrics to be tracked and lead the implementation of countermeasures as necessary
  • Work with the JDE implementation teams on finance related matters and rollouts to new areas of the business.
  • Other duties as assigned


What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a strong aptitude for Generally Accepted Accounting Principles including cost accounting
  • CPA, CMA, or Master of Business Administration preferred but not required
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Must have managed a team, experience working in a multi-plant environment a plus
  • Experience in working in a manual, multi system environment along with integration of processes and systems is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Senior Level Management and Executives providing clear and concise information and recommendations
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably Quickbooks and Oracle products such as JD Edwards, FCCS, and EPBCS
  • Aptitude for continuous improvement and process re-design
  • Excellent leaderships skill and demonstrate an ability to work effectively with individuals of various skill sets
  • Experience in all facets of talent management, including assessment, organizational change and professional development
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore’s strategy.
  • Gain an understanding of the Operations Management team.
  • Understand Atkore policies for accounting and internal controls and GAAP


Within 6-months, you’ll:

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports and statements
  • Facilitate the consistent application of internal controls and Sarbanes Oxley compliance audit activity
  • Work closely with the Operations Management team on various ad hoc requests
  • Review internal accounting processes making recommendations for streamlining opportunities
  • Work on Capital Requests with the Operations Management Team


Within 12-months, you’ll:

  • Execute financial analytics pertaining to month-end close, monthly forecasting and the annual budgeting process
  • Perform monthly accounting close and reporting activities in timely and accurate manner including preparation and oversight of GL entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Oversee the development, analysis, and management of plant standard costs including leading the annual standard cost process
