Job Summary

The Department of Quality Assurance and Management at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Performance Improvement Manager / Utilization Review/Quality Assurance Senior Coordinator. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide clinical expertise for hospital and departmental performance improvement projects.
  • Collect, analyze and present data in a narrative, statistical and graphic format.
  • Perform medical record reviews for quality measures as assigned.
  • Develop corrective actions, improvement strategies and monitor outcomes.
  • Educate hospital staff on principles of quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Facilitate clinical departments performance improvement meetings (agendas, minutes, statistical data, research and follow up).
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform complex quality management responsibilities (i.e. facilitator, liaison, educator, data analysis/design/collection/implementation, etc.).
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact with a wide range of professionals at all levels and manage highly complex clinical and administrative processes that require problem-solving.
  • Demonstrate expertise in quality management science and its application.
  • Take a flexible and collaborative approach when aligning with various departments and institutional leadership; demonstrate a communication style that is approachable and comfortable with leaders and frontline teams, alike.

Required Qualifications

  • New York State Medical Doctor, Registered Nurse or other healthcare related licensure.
  • 3+ years of clinical experience with knowledge of, and experience with, healthcare quality improvement, including metric-driven quality and safety culture.
  • Certification in CQI (CPHQ) within 18-months of hire.
  • Experience in data collection tool development and statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge and application of performance improvement methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of inpatient hospital clinical care experience with a minimum of 2-years experience in healthcare quality improvements as a project lead is highly preferred.

Variable Days; Variable Hours

(*Scheduling flexibility is required for this position, in order to engage the day, evening, and night shifts as well as weekend shifts, as needed.)

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
