Police Corporal

Primary Purpose

Act in accordance with 37.081 of the Texas Education Code to enforce all laws, including municipal/county ordinances, and state laws to protect all students, faculty, staff, and others from physical harm and to prevent the loss of property due to theft and/or vandalism.

In addition to the normal duties of a Police Officer, the Police Corporal is responsible for coordinating the work efforts and schedules of district police officers, parking lot attendants and other police staff assigned to the district. This shall include safety and security oversight before and after school and athletic events.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or GED

Valid Texas Drivers’ License

Intermediate or higher Peace Officer Proficiency Certification issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)

Meet and maintain all TCOLE standards

Special Knowledge/Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of police procedures, criminal investigation, police report writing, criminal law, code of criminal procedures, chapter 52 of Texas Family Code, chapter 37 of Texas Education Code, District & Campus emergency operation plans, national incident management system (NIMS) and other applicable laws and practices relating to school-based law enforcement;

Training and techniques related to restraint and use of force, including firearms and handcuffs;

Superior interpersonal skills, including ability to interact with people of diverse backgrounds in a professional and proficient manner;

Ability to the coordinate the work efforts and schedules of district police officers, provide direct instruction and supervision as necessary;

Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of laws, criminal procedures, organizational policies and activities.

Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Ability to communicate effectively orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.

Ability to represent the department and District in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.

Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.

Ability to use Department and District equipment effectively.

Experience

Minimum of one year in school-based law enforcement or 5 years of overall law enforcement experience.

Salary: AUX PD /225 days

Starting: $54,410

TCole Certification Pay

Master- $4,000 Annually

Advanced $3,000 Annually

Intermediate $ 2,000 Annually
