Our Story For more than 100 years, Port Houston has owned and operated the public wharves and terminals along the Houston Ship Channel, including the area’s largest breakbulk facility and two of the most efficient container terminals in the country. Port Houston is the advocate and a strategic leader for the Channel. The Houston Ship Channel complex and its more than 200 private and eight public terminals, collectively known as the Port of Houston, is the nation’s largest port for waterborne tonnage and an essential economic engine for the Houston region, the state of Texas and the U.S. The Port of Houston supports the creation of nearly 1.5 million jobs in Texas and 3.4 million jobs nationwide, and economic activity totaling $439 billion in Texas and $906 billion in economic impact across the nation.

    Thursday, October 3, 2024, 6:03 PM Port Houston Operations Update We have been notified the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) have reached an agreement to resume operations, and we will be re-opening Port Houston’s Bayport and Barbours Cut Container Terminals swiftly and safely. Friday, October 4 Gate Hours – 1 p.m. – 8 p.m., ingate closes at 7 p.m. No reefers after 5 p.m. Confirm LFD and extension request with the ocean carrier Rail operations are resumed. Vessel operations will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, October 5 Extended Hours – 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., ingate closes at 4 p.m. No reefers/out of gauge Onsite empty yards will match our hours Confirm LFD and extension request with the ocean carrier Port Houston Customer Service will be available Storage: Port Houston will not charge the ocean carriers storage on days the terminal gates were closed. Please reach out to the ocean carrier directly for free-time inquiries.     Port Houston Statement On Work Stoppage Thursday, October 3, 2024, 4:25 PM The existing contract between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) has expired and there is a work stoppage at Port Houston’s Bayport and Barbours Cut Container Terminals. Port Houston is not involved in the contract negotiations or discussions. Port Houston’s Bayport and Barbours Cut Container Terminal gates are closed and all container operations are suspended for the duration of this work stoppage. ILA-supported public general cargo/multi-purpose facilities are not impacted by the work stoppage. Our business continuity plan is in place, and we are prepared to ramp up recovery operations as soon as an agreement is reached. We will continue to post updates on our social media and at https://bit.ly/3TVV68W as the situation develops. Reefer Units: All reefer units will remain connected to power throughout the work stoppage. Please contact the ocean carriers for monitoring capabilities.     Port Houston Operations Update: USMX – ILA Pending Work Stoppage   Monday, September 30, 2024, 3:35 PM     The existing contract between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) expires at midnight on Monday, September 30 and we are preparing for a potential work stoppage on October 1. Port Houston is not involved in the contract negotiations or discussions.   In the event of a work stoppage, Port Houston container terminal gates will be closed beginning Tuesday, October 1 and all container operations will be suspended. ILA-supported public general cargo/multi-purpose facilities are not expected to be impacted by the work stoppage.   Today, Monday, September 30 Bayport and Barbours Cut Container Terminal ingates will close at 6 p.m. and vessel ops will conclude by 7 p.m.   Reefer Units: Reefers may be received until 5 pm September 30. All reefer units will remain connected to power throughout any work stoppage – Please contact the ocean carriers for monitoring capabilities.    Hazardous Units: Hazardous may be received until 6 pm September 30. Please ensure the unit is pre-advised before returning to the terminal to avoid delays.   Rail: Rail operations at our terminals are suspended for the duration of the work stoppage.   Storage: Port Houston will not charge the ocean carriers storage on days the terminal gates are closed. In the days leading up to September 30th, we expect normal business operations. If there is a work stoppage, Port Houston container terminal gates will be closed. We will provide daily updates and share the latest information on our website as the situation develops. Please see below for additional details regarding our container terminal operations.
