Job Summary

Plan, organize, implement, administer, and evaluate department patrol and investigation activities. Apply continuing leadership and consistent administrative measures within the department. Provide necessary direction for an adequate and a timely response to traffic and criminal activity on campus. Plan, direct and coordinate the enforcement activities of shift personnel and perform various administrative functions to assure the provision of emergency aid, security and protection to the campus. Train, instruct and monitor performance of Police Officers. Ensure that all departmental and Institute policies and procedures are followed. Receive and resolve citizen complaints. Assist assigned officers in the timely resolution of unusual law enforcement situations. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations.

This position will interact on a consistent basis with: supervisor and co-workers and subordinates, GT employees, students and campus visitors

This position typically will advise and counsel: subordinate police personnel, faculty/staff, students and campus visitors

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Control and direct the activities of their officers/employee through direct supervision

Job Duty 2 -

Inspect personal appearance, equipment, and activities of officers/employee daily

Job Duty 3 -

Monitor the ongoing field training and progress of new officers/employees

Job Duty 4 -

Maintain records for each officer/employee, noting growth and development

Job Duty 5 -

Meet with officer/employee regularly to provide feedback on job performance

Job Duty 6 -

Review all written reports and documents submitted by officers

Job Duty 7 -

Inform Captain/Division Commander of all matters of interest that occur

Job Duty 8 -

Provide department vehicles are maintained and utilized appropriately

Job Duty 9 -

Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Educational Requirements

Required Qualifications

High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma

Required Experience

Four to five years of job-related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications

Technical Diploma, Associate Degree, or two years college course work. Strongly prefer a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Police Science or closely related field

Preferred Experience

Five or more years in active, sworn peace officer capacity; experience in a college/university environment

Proposed Salary

Salary Range: $60/Hr (based on experience)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

This job requires effective verbal and written communications skills; demonstrated ability to

exercise quick, independent, and sound judgment and ability to display initiative in applying work

methods. Additionally required are the use of specialized computer applications, word processing

and police officer equipment.

Work environment may involve exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situationsthat require following extensive safety precautions. Environment may require physical tasks such as:

restraining individuals, use of bodily force, the ability to push, pull or drag bodies weighing up to 100 lbs.
